Just wonder if I get a 2 seater convertible, can my toddler sit in car seat on the passenger side (no airbag)?

I am pretty sure you can, I have seen it many times in trucks with no back seats..

I know my work trucks (fairly new) have a switch on the dashboard to disable the airbag and on my car the passenger seat actually has a sensor in it. If you're not heavy enough the airbag is disabled.
Depends on the vehicle i suppose.

as long as theres no airbag or it is disabled its ok... the safety concern is the airbag.

So no specific safety restriction with regard to the open top and the 2 seater?
thx
Its perfectly legal. In my experience with both the Mx-5 and porsche club, many people bring youngsters on a drive (I.E. Daddy has to babysit). As long as there is no risk for air-bag deployment, you are fine. Both my MX-5 and Boxster had Air-bag disable switches.
And make sure you properly install your car seats (Which Im sure you do). 70% of infant fatalities are related to improper installation of the car seat.

Thanks for all advice.
Yes, of course I'll make sure the car seat will be secured -- that's the most important priority to me :)
A responsible father still wants some driving fun once in a while ;-)
