so i should be coming into some money hopefully soon and i have had my eye on a jdm rx-7 fd for awhile

i know there are websites like importconcern.ca and the such. but from personal experience what would my best option be?

i looked there and there are no rx-7's for sale right now..

im looking for feedback mainly on the different import companies with personal experience

any feedback would be appreciated

Your going to have to rebuild it not too long after you get it..unless you find one with extremly low milage..

Edited: noticed you only want feedback on the importers lol...well ive heard nothing but good things about importconcern..and they seem to have decent prices on FD's.

its been rumored that they are gonna do it for a long time. but who knows even if the do do it there would be a notice that its going to happen probally 6 months or so then there will be a period for all the bussiness to bring in all their cars that they already own and there maybe a rule like austrailia has that will still allow cars like rx-7's to be brought in aslong as they meet some standards.

anyway pm me and i might be able to do somthing for ya i bring in a bunch of cars everyonce and a while.

I sure hope not. One in good shape in 5 spd for 7000 landed is IMPOSSIBLE.

FD3S for 7K will be damaged.

If you are in the market for a nice FD you will need at least 14K in your pocket.

You could find a decent FC3S for 7K though.

We buy cars at auction. For 7000 its totally possible. We paid 300,000yen for an RX7, and with shipping and our fees it landed in Canada for just over 5000bucks. That was for a non-accident, very good, low kms car.

O wow! thats not bad. I thought Most JDM FD 's would run you over 15.

Buy one from auction. I know a guy that landed one for just over $4000. It needs about $800 in parts to pass OOP.

As long as you do regular oil changes and properly tune the car, it will last as long as you take care of it.

I've seen the 3K specials that come from the auction house in Japan.

Not worth a penny...most import companies will tell you completely otherwise...auction grade 4 this and that...believe me, you want a fool proof car without pleasant surprises...buy private in Japan...or off someone who didnt go through the auction house...

...mind you 95% of the import companies use the auction house so might be difficult...but you get what you pay for.

14K would be my minimum starting price for a good, low KM, FD.

7K I'd go FC.

14k to 18k could get you a nice LHD FD these days.

Also look at Ebay. There are lots of decent LHD ones available.

i kinda wanted a RHD.. just to be different

but i would also want to test drive a RHD and see how it felt first

RHD (For me 6'0 225 pounds) is a pain in the ass. Smaller seats that sit higher (japanese are shorter in most cases) so my head hits the roof. Seat doesnt go back as far, because most have a back seat.

AND, remember where the steering box is? Now remember where the turbo is? Remember how tight the engine bay is? Makes turbo selection VERY limited. And Expensive.

Thats why alot of Aussies bring over RHD RX-7's and convert them to LHD.

As far as imconcerned, I rarely see LHD FD's. And one's I do see are in fantastic condition.

Its all a matter of what you want. If you can get a smokin deal on a JDM, go for it. If the price is close to a LHD, I'd go for the LHD.

So.....3000 dollar car. 1000 in sea freight (minimum, this is assuming roro which is very hard to get on and you usually have to wait and pay for shipping). 1600 if it is container. Then for average guy, you have somewhere between 70 000 and 120 000 for broker fee's (paid to a combination of brokers in japan and import companies here). 400 for allied trucking to calgary bare minimum, allied are being douches lately so 500 is more realistic.

Then you have a plethora of other fee's, Canadian customs brokerage fee's, in Japan trucking, parking fee's if applicable, Japanese auction house fees, A/C tax......plus others I have forgot to mention.

Anyway, there is no physical way you can land a 3000 dollar car for "just over 5000" today in Calgary.

From my experience lately, if the car is containered, it's gonna cost somewhere closer to 7000.....

And from what I have seen, a 300 000 yen FD is not worth shit and almost impossible to find unless its automatic and with 100 000 km and rougher shape.

since they were allowed in, ive only seen one driving around a white one. thats pretty different if you ask me. i have a RHD MR2, for this site that is not different but for people that arent on this site it is a completely different car. its very common to see them on here, but not on the streets. i would say theres a maximum of 20 RHD MR2's in Calgary and compared to the million other cars on the road i think anything RHD is pretty rare, even if you do see them everywhere. i was also looking at an FD when they became available, but you really gotta do your research on these cars before you buy one. just my. 02

If you are paying $400-500 to ship from Vancouver, take your hands off of your ankles and call someone else!!!!

DonJuan landed his car through JapanCar for just over $5000.
Its not molested, its not beat up. It has 47,000 original km on it!

By the looks of it, my car is going to be just over 5000 landed too.
(fingers crossed)

Adam, If you want good information than try to ignore almost all of the posts in here. If you visit all of the importers websites you should be able to find out a bunch of information on your own. You can always save yourself a little bit of money and do a majority of the importing work yourself. I personally bought my car through a company in Japan and am sort of brokering the deal myself. By doing this I am saving myself around $1000-$1500. Even by doing this, I purchased my car through the auction for 575000JPY which included the companys costs for bidding on the car, transporting the car, and sending all the paper wourk through a courier to me. By the time I have payed for shipping, customs fees and all of the dock charges I will have this car landed for around 8 grand. This is for a FD with 63,000km, grade 3.5 with a B grade interior. If you want a big list of websites to look at send me a pm.

Personally CanadianSkyline's post was exactly right.

Let's not forget De-Stuffage fee's and dock to warehouse moving fee's.

I have imported two vehicles myself...and neither came from the auction house, and thank god for that.

Listen to CanadianSkyline or myself.

...you're not going to find a good, long lasting, FD for 7K like these guys are saying.

$7000 for a mint FD to Calgary is not realistic at all, unless it's automatic.

You dont know wtf you're talking about.

Hansens forwarding just upped their prices to over 600 for shipping from vancouver. Allied is 400, and they are being stupid lately and wont do lowered cars, wont boost cars, wont do cars that are out of gas, if there is ANYTHING wrong with the car they dont want anything to do with it anymore.

I just brought a car on searail to calgary and that was 450.

So tell me what the hell you are using to get much cheaper than this for shipping???

Or have none of you guys imported a car lately? I used to be able to land cars for 4000, now with containering and all the upped fee's its pretty much 5000 minumum, and thats for like a 100 000 yen car. If you want to assure yourself a nice FD, no accidents, low mileage, it's gonna be around 400 000 yen for a 5 spd, and its gonna cost another 4500 to get to your door.

You can try to get lucky and get a roro spot, but most places charge storage fee's and in the long run, it ends up costing just as much to roro cause half the time the cars sit for so long waiting for roro you might as well have just containered them to begin with.

Also...buying private is more $$ than auctions....

I strongly recomend that if you are serious about importing a FD that you should do some major research on the car before you import one. They can be amazing cars, but you have to make sure you know what you are doing with them.

FD's require much care. Im a firm beliver in the most important thing in a used FD is History. KMs are a small factor compared to how the vehicle was driven and cared for. If the car has been resprayed or is showing obivous wear, its not been cared for as much.
