Hello. I was looking at a RX-7 TII I am very interested in buying but it has some rust that I was kind of worried about. I'm not sure if this is a horrible thing or how hard / expensive it would be to fix.

Is it worth buying the car for $3400?

Thanks,
Jared

try taking it to a body shop, they should be able to do a free estimate, then you can decide whether its worth it or not.

that is probably rusted right threw, in the fc there are tubes that run from the sunroof all the way down the a piller and it looks like they are cracked and water has been running down the inside of the car for many years

that may not even pass an inspection, i would say move on, if you want a fc with a tll engine then you can do it for about the same price as that, if you can find a shell for about a grand

That metal isn't even repairable anymore with all that rust! They'd have to grind the metal down to get rid of the rust first, and by the looks of it, there really isn't much virgin metal left on there anyway. I'd say don't even bother with the body shop, unless you enjoy being laughed at and turned away.

well any of the companies can import one for you you just have to ask, also there is a very clean one for sale on www.canadiantrader.com kinda pricy but it has been for sale for so long that they may drop the price a bit

that ones gorgeous...exactly what I want. just a little more than i was hoping to spend. But i guess you gotta pay to get what you want it life. So that would be the landed price in Vancouver Im assuming? So I still have to pick it up and get it safetied and all that jazz right

yup, tll are expensive, but if you can find a nice clean gxl shell just swap in the tll engine it would be way cheaper if you dont rebuild the motor, and it would also be lhd

now would you recommend actually getting at TII engine or just turbo-ing the gxl engine?

is there really a difference?

I found a nice gxl in medcine hat im going to look at this weekend

tll engine, you can get them from jdmsource, the na engine has higher compression then the tll and it is much cheaper just to swap it in, i cant remember but i think all you need is the tll ecu, engine, and a new clutch? and that will give you better acel. with the gxl tranny, plus the gxl already has the sweet brakes and 5 lug and lsd :burnout:

and what about a tII hood. there should be somewhere I can buy one of those too right. Thats one of my favourite things of the tII :)

But yea. Is that why your looking for a GXL? Planning to do the swap? Seems liek everyone I'm interested in, you find first lol

no dont have the cash, just want a nice little track/drift car for the summer, i really wanted that red gxl, but whatever, yeah and for the hood get the aluminum one, rx7 specialties sometimes has one or 2 kickin around

im either gonna get a fc gxl, 240sx, or a e30 325is, which ever i can find first that is in my price range and in good shape

Yea I'm kindof in the same boat. I just thought it would be cool to have a turbo 7. But yes I will probably take the 7000 from my stealth and buy a gxl and put the rest to paying off school... We need to find a way to make easy cash lol
