Got dreaded check engine light on my 01 prelude. Got code 71 which is a misfire and these are the possiable causes:

* Ignition System
* Fuel Supply System
* EGR System
* IAC Valve
* Contaminated Fuel
* Lack of Fuel
* Valve Clearance
* Fuel Injector Circuit
* Low Compression

I have done some research on the notorious EGR valve build up but was hoping to hear from some other 5gen lude owners who have had this code. It can't low compression cause my car runs great, can't be lack of fuel, can't be contaminted(i always put premium). Can anyone help me out?

Check for fouled plugs first. Replace all four spark plugs with brand new ones and see if your car runs better.

Sounds like it most likely needs a tuneup.

could be egr.....but i have my bets on fouled/worn plugs as well.

also, what gas do you run in it? premium?

buy a $10 socket set from CT's pretty much any set will have the spark plug socket thats probably the easiest way

Uh you also need a torque wrench so you don't overtorque the plugs into the aluminum head. Just get OEM Copper or Platinum Plugs.

I also put some antiseize lubricant onto the threads of the new plugs so they are easier to get out later.
