Durin the Jays game I decided to start up my predictions which I do every year. I think my picks are pretty accurate this year, also put in some little blurbs to read after my predictions as well as what I believe the series will go to.

WESTERN CONFERENCE
(1)Detroit Red Wings v.s. (8)Calgary Flames
Prediction: Calgary Flames for the upset.

If they win game one, they will win.
Flames 4-3

However if they lose, Detriot will move on.
Detriot 4-2

(2)Anehiem Ducks v.s. (7)Minnesota Wild
Prediction: Minnesota Wild

Nikolas Backstrom is too hot of a goalie. That simple.
Wild 4-1

(3)Vancouver Canucks v.s. (6)Dallas Stars
Prediciton: Vancouver Canucks

One of the best teams in the West. Sedin's will each put over 5 points in the first round.
Vancouver 4-2

(4)Nashville Predators v.s. (5)San Jose Sharks
Predicition: Nashville Predators

Sure San Jose has all the star players, but home advantage will really take a toll in this series.
Nashville 4-3

EASTERN CONFERENCE
(1)Buffalo Sabers v.s. (8)New York Islanders
Predicition: Buffalo Sabers

Best team in the East for hot players, Maxim gets 2 assists in his return, This series is going to be a blow out. (I'm just glad Toronto didn't make the playoffs)
Buffalo 4-0

(2)New Jersey Devils v.s. (7)Tampa Bay Lightning
Predicition: New Jersey Devils

Broduer VS...well..Neither of the Lightning Goalies are good, so Broduer VS no one. Of course Lecav and St.Louis will put points on the board each game, but goaltending is the killer for the Lightning. Another blow out here.
New Jersey 4-0

(3)Atlanta Thrashers v.s. (6)New York Rangers
Predicition: Atlanta Thrashers

Marian Hossa, Slava Kozlov, Kolvachuk, Letty in the net. Stacked team against a very hot Rangers team, however their leaders will put the puck in the net when needed.
Atlanta 4-2

(4)Ottawa Senators v.s. (5)Pittsburg Penguins
Predicition: Ottawa Senators

Toughest decision to make in the whole playoffs, two very equal teams who both have their stars who will win a game for them. Goaltending is both lacking for these two teams, not because of their wins, but because of their GAA. High scoring games, every single game. Expect 7 games with a final win for Ottawa.
Ottawa 4-3

Wings in 5 - Only thing consistent about the Flames is their inconsistency, and lack of heart.

Ducks in 3 - Gaborik can't cherry pick when there's one of Pronger/Niedermeyer waiting for him. No shootouts to save the Wild anymore.

Sharks in 7 - Should be entertaining series - Preds have fast, talented forwards capable of scoring - the Sharks have that too, but they are much, much bigger.

Canucks in 5 - Turco sucks in the playoffs, period.

Sabres in 5 - Buffalo much too powerful for the NYI with their backup goalie.

Sens in 7 - IMO the best series to watch in round 1. Crosby is going to stumble before he takes off in the playoffs.

Devils in 5 - Brodeur >>>>>>>>>>> The Hobbit and Lecavalier.

Rangers in 6 - The Thrashers are only in the playoffs because of the garbage division they play in. They are terrible, and will be exposed for the chumps they are.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

(1)Detroit Red Wings v.s. (8)Calgary Flames
Flames 4-2
Depends on how good we play, but come playoff time hopefully we can get our acts together

(2)Anehiem Ducks v.s. (7)Minnesota Wild
Ducks 4-2
Ducks defense is way too good for the wilds. No SO means no easy wins for Minnesota

(3)Vancouver Canucks v.s. (6)Dallas Stars
Dallas 4-3
This is a close one, if Turco can play like he does in the regular season, I think Dallas has a better chance to win. Also, Lungo's first playoff series, we'll see how good he is in the playoffs.

(4)Nashville Predators v.s. (5)San Jose Sharks
San Jose 4-3
Another close one, two very good teams

EASTERN CONFERENCE
(1)Buffalo Sabers v.s. (8)New York Islanders
Buffalo 4-1
Sabers can make it to the finals

(2)New Jersey Devils v.s. (7)Tampa Bay Lightning
New Jersey 4-1
no contest, no goalie = no win in the playoffs

(3)Atlanta Thrashers v.s. (6)New York Rangers
Atlanta 4-3
Close game

(4)Ottawa Senators v.s. (5)Pittsburg Penguins
Ottawa 4-3
whoever scroes the most goals wins that game. But Ottawa has better defense.

I think the team to watch in the west is gonna be san jose sadly...so much power down the stretch from that team...I think pittsburg will do well in the east as well, but my prediction for the final is New Jersey vs San Jose.

WESTERN CONFERENCE

(1)Detroit Red Wings v.s. (8)Calgary Flames
Flames 4-3
Flames will get a run for their money, but Kipper will steal this series.

(2)Anehiem Ducks v.s. (7)Minnesota Wild
Wild 4-3
The Wild will upset the Ducks. The Wild have a hot goaltender, and Demitra/Gaborik are amazing.

(3)Vancouver Canucks v.s. (6)Dallas Stars
Dallas 4-3
The Stars will shine against the Canucks,

(4)Nashville Predators v.s. (5)San Jose Sharks
Nashville 4-1
Nashville is too good.

EASTERN CONFERENCE
(1)Buffalo Sabers v.s. (8)New York Islanders
Buffalo 4-0
Buffalo will make short work of the Islanders. The Sabres are my choice to come out of the East.

(2)New Jersey Devils v.s. (7)Tampa Bay Lightning
New Jersey 4-1
Broduer will tame Vinny and St Louis

(3)Atlanta Thrashers v.s. (6)New York Rangers
Thrashers 4-3
Thrashers will survive, Jagr will choke

(4)Ottawa Senators v.s. (5)Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh 4-3
The penguins young stars will set the tone early, and will rack up the points

WESTERN CONFERENCE

(1)Detroit Red Wings v.s. (8)Calgary Flames
Flames 4-3
It'll be a close match up. IMO, Kipper's a better goalie than Hasek. The difference will be with the/our defensemen. If the Flames can get their act together early in the series, the Red Wings shouldn't be a problem. I'll go out on a limb and say the hometown heroes.

(2)Anehiem Ducks v.s. (7)Minnesota Wild
Anehiem 4-2
Sorry Minnesota, no shootouts in the post season so tying up the game and running the clock won't work here (though I'm sure there will definitely be a few OT rounds).

(3)Vancouver Canucks v.s. (6)Dallas Stars
Vancouver 4-2
It's been a long time coming for Luongo and he wants this bad. The Sedins will take care of the points. My western pick for this year.

(4)Nashville Predators v.s. (5)San Jose Sharks
SJ 4-3
A close one between two good teams. I'm leaning towards the Sharks.

EASTERN CONFERENCE
(1)Buffalo Sabres v.s. (8)New York Islanders
Buffalo 4-1
I thought Buffalo was going to make it to the finals last season (though I'm not basing my prediction on that). They're my eastern pick for this year.

(2)New Jersey Devils v.s. (7)Tampa Bay Lightning
New Jersey 4-1
I'm surprised TB even made it into the playoffs. Brodeur should finish them off quickly, but I'll give Lecavalier and St.Louis the benefit of the doubt for a game.

(3)Atlanta Thrashers v.s. (6)New York Rangers
Atlanta 4-2

(4)Ottawa Senators v.s. (5)Pittsburgh Penguins
Pittsburgh 4-3
Pens vs Sens. This could go either way, but I'm going to say Pittsburgh. Better goalie and younger goal scorers. Emery's too flakey to be reliable. I don't think Pittsburgh will get too far after this though.

ZedMan

Flames in 6 - that's how the flames roll, well, if they can get their heads in the game.

Ducks in 5, gaborik and demitra are hot, but pronger nieds are awesom-er, ALL the time.

Vancouver in 6 - Luongo wants the cup like hell, and vigneault's done an excellent job building van's system around him.

Sj in 6 - SJ is a strong, consistent team and they know how the playoffs work. And they absofuckingowned nashville last season.

Sabres in 5 - I can't see an upset here, Buffalo is just plain awesome, and the isles don't have dipietro

NJ in 6 - Brodeur > *

Rangers in 7 - atlanta will never win a cup with those weird looking baby blue jerseys.

Sens in 6 - Pittsburg doesn't have the goaltending IMO. Fleury definately is skilled and has potential, but isn't ready for the post-season mentally. Will be fun to watch, though.

WESTERN CONFERENCE
(1)Detroit Red Wings v.s. (8)Calgary Flames
Red Wings 4-2
As much as I like watching Flames, I don't think we have much chance fighting agains the top seed of the conference.

(2)Anehiem Ducks v.s. (7)Minnesota Wild
Anehiem 4-2
With Manny out....and Demitra just got back. I don't think Wild has much chance.

(3)Vancouver Canucks v.s. (6)Dallas Stars
Vancouver 4-2

(4)Nashville Predators v.s. (5)San Jose Sharks
SJ 4-3

EASTERN CONFERENCE
(1)Buffalo Sabres v.s. (8)New York Islanders

Interesting how many are picking the Flames & Canucks to win. I'm fairly confident that Ottawa will be the only Canadian team to make it into the 2nd round. Canucks and Flames don't stand much of a chance IMO. Stars & Wings will overcome their recent playoff woes to win in relatively easy fashion.

Here we go.. apparently some people around here smoking crack because you're way way off.... break it down...

(1)Detroit Red Wings v.s. (8)Calgary Flames
Detroit 4-1 (yes they will be lucky to win one)

(2)Anehiem Ducks v.s. (7)Minnesota Wild
Ducks 4-0 (Anehiem are on a mission)

(3)Vancouver Canucks v.s. (6)Dallas Stars
Vancouver 4-2 (this will be a lot closer if Turco shows up, which he won't)

(4)Nashville Predators v.s. (5)San Jose Sharks
San Jose 4-3 (tight one, I do believe that SJ will take it but won't have anything left for the second round after getting beat up by Nashville, Nashville on the other hand has injuries, AGAIN)

EASTERN CONFERENCE
(1)Buffalo Sabers v.s. (8)New York Islanders
Buffalo 4-0 (NY limped in, good luck against Miller)

(2)New Jersey Devils v.s. (7)Tampa Bay Lightning
New Jersey 4-2 (TB is probably one of the most unpredictable teams out there, this one could go either way)

(3)Atlanta Thrashers v.s. (6)New York Rangers
Rangers 4-3 (ATL has a lot of firepower, but so does NYR, i feel sorry for the goalies on both teams)

(4)Ottawa Senators v.s. (5)Pittsburg Penguins
Ottawa 4-2 (Ottawa has depth, it will be a great experience for the Pens, but they just don't have enough umf to get through the first round)

modded46

I have one last thing to add.. Watch ATL.. even though I think they will lose to NY, if they do manage to get past them, they will be in the finals of some sort, either Conference or Stanley Cup..

detroit is a very strong team, yes, but for whatever reason our win record against them is good...the season has been split with whoever is at home winning. to say we'll win less than twice is basically ignoring the stats.

Bwhahahha.... soooooo true haha.

Dave Hodge:

This would be a good place for predicting that, and I would tell you that I think Buffalo, Ottawa, Anaheim and San Jose will win, but then you'd ask, "in how many games?"

Do you ever really analyze those detailed picks that are made at the start of every round? I'm seeing a lot of "Ottawa over New Jersey in seven". What that really means is "I'm not sure who'll win, but I'll play it safe and pick the Canadian team."

Then there's "Anaheim over Vancouver in five". That's another way of saying "Roberto Luongo will steal one game."

Predicting a 6-game series is a good way to be ignored. Shorter than 7, longer than 5 - who wants to debate that?

Then there's the sweep. You seldom see someone bold enough to predict a sweep. It's impolite, and it's too easy to be wrong. You can pick the right team, but all you hear is, "ya, but you said they'd sweep.......you dummy."

They never say "you monkey". Maggie's smart enough to just pick the winners....some of them.

Yeah I know the whole "6" thing I pointed out earlier, however I truly believe no game 7 will be needed in either of the finals, only change may be Ducks in 5.

The Sens have more and better scorers than the Sabres? Are you joking?

The Sabres are known for being a 4 line team. Every line can score, which can't be said for the Sens, as good as they are. Just look at this:

Vanek
Briere
Drury
Pominville
Hecht
Kotalik
Conolly
Mair
Afinogenov
Zubrus
Stafford

Not to mention their Dmen, like Campbell and Numminen. Ottawa tails off quite noticably after Heatley, Spezza and Alfredsson.

:werd: However, I still choose Ott over Buffalo, though if you look at season stats they are pretty much even, especially when looking at gf/ga.

Ott 3.49/2.63
Buf 3.63/2.90

Also as far as scoring goes, all of Buffalo's scoring is widespread, which is great, but 1 line isn't that much better than another. The Alfredsson Spezza Heatley line is a powerhouse, the best in the playoffs. I think it's easier for the Ottawa defense to shut down the Buffalo offense than it is for the Buffalo defense to shut down the the Ottawa offense.

That said it should be a great series.

Oh rly?

If the Sabres shut down Ottawa's one line then this series is over in 4.

Kinda hard to shut down all 4 of Buffalo's scoring lines haha.

Ott defense is a lot deeper than Buffalo. That, and if NJ couldn't keep that line in check I very much doubt Buffalo will. Like I said, Heatley, Spezza, Alfredsson is the best line in the playoffs. It is a great line. Buffalo has 4 good lines, but nothing too explosive.

The Sens are playing a much better brand of D then that of Buffalo and that will be the difference in the series. BUT if the Sabres play quality hockey in the defensive zone this series may got the distance but I still think Ottawa will win!

Who do you think will win: the Senators or the Ducks?

And, in how many games?

I'll pick the Senators because they're Ontarian/Canadian and because a team named 'Ducks' or 'Mighty Ducks' shouldn't be allowed in the NHL, lol. Go Senators

Part of me wants the Flames to win the cup 'for Canada'.
So that requires me to cheer for the Ducks. Plus if the Ducks win..its our turn next to win the cup after losing in the cup finals (Canes-->Ducks-->Flames). Then hopefully it ends there, because I dont want the oilers to win it ahah :goflames:

I love the build up of this upcoming Series. How Ottawa's amazing coach helped build The Ducks prior to entering Ottawa. Its gonna be one hell of a series.

Sad to say, I think the goalies are both gonna be facing a tremendous amount of flying pucks.

However, the way Ottawa is clogging up the neutral zone close to their end, thus forcing the opposition to dump in the puck, Emery will face quite a number of fewer shots.

Dont expect Pronger to get too many points this series. Ottawa has been doing amazing at keeping the wingers at the point and chipping the puck out of their zone.

The thing that Ottawa needs to look out for is speed, speed, speed. One false pinch, and the ducks will be getting 3 on 1's like crazy. Thus putting the puck in the net.

Ottawa will put more pucks onto the net.
Ottawa will play better in their own end.
Ottawa will win in 6.

Hakkola
05-24-2007, 12:36 PM
It is a toss up for me, I really like both teams. I don't think speed will be a problem for ottawa, Buffalo was a fast team as well and it didn't matter.

I think Ottawa will win, which is cool because a Canadian team has not won it in a long time. However, I'd really like for Selanne to win a cup.

Supa Dexta
05-25-2007, 10:44 PM
I think anaheim is sloppier, and doesn't move the puck well enough...Ottawa makes A LOT of beautiful passes, with great speed.... we will see...
