ok just wanted to get your guys opinion i am in the market for a 6 series bmw convertible i found one for $81,000 it has 64k kms. do you think that i am paying too much? since i can pick up a new one for $101k. it doesnt make a huge difference since i would be leasing. the main issue for me is if i take the 05 for 81k i get a rag top.

Convertibles are usually a good 10-15k more expensive when the car is worth that much. Check out a brand new one with a ragtop, should be a lot more.

You are paying way too much. For that money, you should be in an 06 Cab with the new (and far superior) V8, with reasonable kms.

The new cabs don't start at 101; it's 111. This car is not worth as much as the $30k price difference between it and a new car. Think about it, two years and 64k should be worth a bigger "discount".

Lastly, with 64k, your warranty is almost gone. Sure, you can get the car certified, but you have to recon it and pay for the warranty... potentially $7k, so consider that a cost you'll have to swallow sooner than later, and the 05 becomes even less of a deal than it already seems!

The US cars are an easy import, but an "apples-to-apples" Canadian car can be had at the same price if you know where to look (and no, not Calgary BMWs site).

I know the trade-in rate for an '03 645 coupe is about $61,000.

Doubt it; the car came out in 2004.

thanks for the replies everyone. after some serious consideration i think that i am going to just lease new. i need a tax right off and a new car would be awesome especially that one.

these are the price differences between coupe and convertible.

2007 M6 Cabriolet

as you can see the prices jump quite a bit from regular to the M series.

payments increase quite a bit as well from 1250 a month to 16-17oo depending on which M series you take. those payement have not been built with options yet. so that is bare minimum.

any accountants out there? how much are you allowed to write off on a lease?

I am no accountant and I have no experience of leasing write-off either... but aint Revenue Canada has a 'cap' on how much a transportation can be written off for business purpose? I doubt that a luxury car can be totally tax written off for normal business purpose... unless i guess your business REQUIRES luxury cars (e.g., a limo service) :burnout:
