View Full Version : I got scooped by SLR McLaren!

I was on the QE2 heading south, just past Red Deer, when a Black Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren scooped me! He was probably going 200Kph! My winter beater never had a chance to keep up! I never thought I'd see one of these in Alberta!

Yeah my fiance and I saw one parked across from Pho Kim in front of the climbing place in town ... it was silver though.

We took some pictures but I can't find them at this time..

Haha! Well I would've been able to keep up if he didn't know I was chasing him! His 600+HP is no match for my little 1.6L 4 banger! VTEC YO!!

My winter beater is a 97 Civic Coupe with a trunk full of construction tools! It's my version of a truck!

I've driven both, and the answer is... no. The SLR has traction like you wouldn't believe on street tires off the line, it's sick. Feels faster off the line than a blown civic on drag slicks.

As for higher speeds, by the time the civic would hit top speed, the SLR's still pulling hard.

You'd know it if it was an SLR. While some of the styling cues are similar to other Benz models, those cars (the SL/SLK) have no where near the pressence of the SLR.

There are a few of these in Calgary always one at the Glencoe Golf and Country club whenever I am there playing. Also a black one I have seen a few times at Earl Grey.

Damn, my uncle owns a black McLaren SLR, so I was wondering if that was him, I think he had a vanity plate that says WALTON or something of the sort, if you happen to spot it next time, see if some old fart almost bald with grey hair is driving it.

I suddenly realized that I just described every old guy with a nice car...
