Do you need 1 to play 2... do they lead into each other or?

yeah GOW2 leads right off the story of GOW1, (you can still play GOW2 without playing GOW1, but the storyline might confuse you a lot) there will eventually be a GOW3 too, probably not on ps2 tho.
