The Calgary Police Service Sex Crimes Team has charged a
Calgary teacher with one count of Sexual Exploitation.

Blaine Stephen HARRISON, 39, was arrested on April 12, 2007.


This charge is in relation to an alleged sexual relationship
Harrison had with a student between October 2005 and February
2007.

The name of the school will not be released to protect the
identity of the alleged victim.

HARRISON is scheduled to appear in Calgary Provincial Court
April 26.

It's a terrible thing, as a parent I fear everyday for my children. It's had to give a child independence when we live in a world or sick people. I can believe in my children to do the right thing, it's the people we have taught our children to trust that seem to keep breaking it.

I think thats part of the reason. A person in authority cannot take advantage of a minor until she comes of age.

yeah this sucks but it happens in allmost every school just alot of it dosn't even make it to papers or get reported at all. My sister and dad are both teachers out here so I hear lot's of stuff

Calgary Teacher Accused of Sex Crime Against Student

CALGARY/AM770CHQR - The Sex Crimes Unit of the Calgary Police Service says it will not be releasing the name of a city school, where a teacher has been charged with sexual exploitation.
Detective Lynne Cunningham says the victim is a teenage girl, allegedly involved in a long term relationship with a 39-year-old male teacher.
Cunningham says the female student approached police about 3 weeks ago.
Cunningham defends the decision not to release the name of the school.

"We are really sensitive to identifying the victim. When somebody finally gets up the courage to come tell police, in this particular case, we felt it could assist in identifying who the victim is."

Cunningham says Blaine Stephen Harrison is no longer on the job.
He appears in court April 26 charged with sexual exploitation.

"Sexual exploitation is a charge involving a victim between 14 and 18 years old, who are in a position of trust with somebody. It could be a teacher, a coach, or a person from the church."

Cunningham says officials at the school are responsible for informing parents, which she says has already been done.
She adds this kind of charge involving a teacher rarely happens in Calgary.

The rule for the minimum age of consensual sex is this:

Minimum 14, as long as the other party is within 2 years of age, and not in a position of power and/or authority;

Minimum 16, as long as the other party is not in a position of power and/or authority;

Minimum 18, do what/whomever they want.

Plus, most institutions (not just schools) have conduct policies that prohibit this kind of activity.
