It's really hard considering all the 85-87 civics i've seen are a pile of rusted shit dying in the junk yard. Why not put that engine in a 92-95 hatch?

weight, and low budget speed, plus no one is doing it, I can find a clean civic with no rust thats not the problem I just need to know what I might end up getting myself into

dbl wishbone suspension started appearing in 88-91 EF civics....for that sole reason, i would recommend sticking to an ef. their suspension is simply waayyyy more tuneable than the 84-87 civics.

also, none of the pre 88 civics are mpfi, which makes swapping a b16 in a little harder. with the efs...u can find an si, which is mpfi.

as for weight, an ef is already plenty light! even a fully loaded 88 crx si doesnt weigh more than 2300 lbs.

i was looking into doing a d16a1 into the 3rd gen swap, and i know that if you want to keep fuel-injection into a carbed model, it will be a PITA.
as for a b16 into a 3rd gen civic/1st gen crx i have the SCC article where they put one into an 86/87 crx si.
if you want me to scan it for you pm me, and i'll send it to you.
