Dumb Car Audio Question

Do power specs on a pair of car speakers refer to the total power for the pair, or the power on each speaker?

ie. 30W RMS
Would this be 15W RMS per speaker, or 30W per speaker?

I've been assuming the former, but damn me if I've been wrong all this time..

30W per speaker. Keep in mind that that rating is essentially saying how much current the speaker can handle. If your amplifier is rated higher you won't damage the speaker unless you really try to drive them hard.

^ Yup. If the the box says "30 W RMS" then each speaker can take 30W normally, and probably twice that at peak.
