Just heard about this fight and watched a TSN preview on the two fighters. Anyone else excited about this one?

Mayweathers a real dick and i'm looking forward to seeing it.

Any ideas on where to watch? Prefer not PPV, but an actual lounge instead. With about 2 weeks til fight night i'm wondering what your thoughts are on this one.

I was a big fan until his streak ended against Trinidad in '99. He's been off and on since, but he's lost a lot of the appeal he had as an undefeated fighter after his 4 losses.

Its possible, but they're the same weight for the fight, and mayweather is wayyy to fast. Quickest hands since Jones jr. in his prime.

Mayweathers taking it. Faster, more technical, better foot movement.

Oscar's stronger/bigger tho, but he's too old to take this one. I do want him to win tho.

yea mayweather is most likely gonna take it, no KO, unanimous decision.

BUt hes fast becoming a little bitch, watching all the press coverage and meeting so far.

good for oscar tho, hes gonna rake in so much money.

and i have a feeling this is gonna be a boring, technical fight.

Probably Mayweather by boring decision.

Mayweather should step up and take Dana White's offer to fight Sean Sherk in an MMA match. Pussy never would though.

It was a good fight. Was close i wish De La Hoya won. He threw alot of punches but they didnt hit. Unlike Mayweather he didn't throw alot but the ones he did they did hit.

Was a GG:thumbsup:

I like how he said hes still retiring now. undefeated, champ in 5 weight classes, nothing to prove and hes made his money. hes done. Good for him to leave while he still has his wits about him.

i highly doubt he will retire. he will prob take a year or 2 off. look at trinidad and hopkins. said they would retire but eventually came back, money plus legacy will get him to come back.

ChokeEmOut
05-06-2007, 03:35 AM
Yeah, I doubt he will retire. That was HILARIOUS how Mayweather came out in mexican colors and a sombraro, along with 50 Cent rapping beside him in a bulletproof vest.

Anybody who says this fight was close was CRAZY
The first judge who scored for Oscar was smoking CRACK!

Although De La Hoya did have some nice combos strung together, most of his hits missed, and almost ALL of his power punches missed. He wore himself out, like he always does. However good for him, He earned the rematch that he will get.

Mayweather was hitting near 50%!

After the 8th round Mayweather DOMINATED and got surgical with his fists.

Pretty Boy's fight knowledge is AMAZING!

pretty close fight. I would have scored it for Oscar, he was more busy and the agressor. I think he was right when he said "if I (Oscar) didn't push the fight, there wouldn't have been one..." Don't get me wrong, Mayweather's speed and accuracy was astounding, but if you want the belt IMO you have to fight for it, judges pretty much won the belt for him.

Meh, fight was ok. Mayweather didn't dominate.
Oscar's defence had him for quite some time.
Boxing has lost alot since the exit of the good heavyweights.
Those guys wouldn't have a chance against MMA guys.
They only use their arms. 5 minutes of full body would own a boxer. Why do you think that wrestlers did so well for so long?
They had the proper training to hang in there while giving 100%.

If that was the best boxing has to offer these days, its no wonder people have stopped caring. Sure from a technical standpoint it was good, but it was pretty terrible from an entertainment perspective.

This is how I feel as well. Mayweather won on the scoresheet, but he was beaten in the ring (if you understand what I'm saying).

Lederman (or whatever the fuck his name was) was giving rounds, in which Oscar threw more and landed more...to Mayweather. That fucking guy loves runners.

All Mayweather did was run all fucking night. Shitastic fight.
DLH deserved the win. Mayweather didn't do a goddamned thing except run and cover. He's lucky Oscar's getting old and doesn't have a gas tank.
Pretty boy's an overrated paper champ who was fighting not to lose. No wonder noone gives a shit about boxing anymore. I hope they got a huge PPV and gate out of this, because I think it'll be boxing's last hoorah.

What are you talking about?

Oscer threw more , and landed LESS then Floyd in EVERY round.
Lederman had the EASY judging.
The other judges atleast dont see statistics

That was Oscars ONLY hope.

well, these guys do weigh 150, it's not exactly Tyson throwing sledgehammers were it hurts even if you block.

Fight was boring because it was like point karate. You touch, you score. Sure it was technical, but it was mostly a test of reflexes. Maywether is fast, very fast, and has great reflexes. So what? That's why top heavyweights will always be a bigger a draw because at that weight and strength you’re FORCED to fight. You can't slap your opponent around or you will get hurt. At 150 you can eat a straight right to the face and keep going. At 250 you will be knocked out. The fights are totally different in strategy and entertainment level. What i'm getting at is that what will save boxing is a resurgence in the HW division. Another killer like Mike Tyson was. Someone that has the talent and surgical skill and precision of a middleweight that throws bombs.

ODH / PBF was a good fight no doubt about it, but it's not going to have people talking in 30 years like Rumble in the Jungle.

Teo very talented guys in a great technical battle but after watching a ton of MMA I just can't get exited about boxing, it just isnt as exciting.

-fights go for a total of 36 minutes with very few "knock potential" action, in MMA if they did that for 15 minutes the crowd would be booing them and hungry for action

-soooo much bureacracy, even Mayweather wasn't suprised he lost in one judges eye, be cause he was, "up against golden boy productions", i mean seariously even the fighters are expecting things to be rigged?

-way too many belts, ufc and pride were at least based on opposite sides of the world so two belts wasn't that bad, but even they decided to merge and im assuming will unify

-way to many weight classes, how many are there like 15? just furthers the problem of too many belts, when one guy can attain belts in like 6 different classes its time to start combining them

-they don't fight enough, there are too few "major" events for boxing fans to geted amped about

Just a few, sorry for the rant.

Yes. If you count a punch that hits the other guys glove or shoulder (which is what they were doing) as "landing" (which is how they were scoring) then Mayweather murdered DLH...

DLH hit Mayweather in the face and ribs.
Mayweather gave Oscar a few pretty decent charlie horses.

What a great fight...

Again, I'm not saying DLH dominated, I'm just saying he was a slightly less shitty fighter than PBF. Champions don't fight to not lose. Champions don't spend 10 of 12 rounds running away...

EDIT: I just rewatched some of the fight over lunch:
I don't even care. DLH is over the hill. PBF is overrated. If this is the best that boxing has to offer, I think we're going to see a surge in televised curling bonspiels.
