nah, I like sporty looking watches, don't like bling looking ones, and TAGs fit the bill well. Plus they use auto racing and cars as inspiration, so really, no brainer. All my TAG's look cheap, dont like the flashy TAGs.

Neither, but I saw something like this when I was in Switzerland. I have never seen anything like it anywhere else though. The rectangular Date-Just was 20,000 CHF. :poosie:

I bought my chopard from Tourneau in San Diego. Same color face as in the picture, only mine isn't chrono. I haven't seen Mille Miglias in Calgary...unless they're already here and I'm just out of touch.

Please write down any additional information.

Big Pilot V1 with faux power reserve. Basically new as I have only worn it a couple of times.

Two things to note: The strap has some marks where the rep "leather" has rubbed away to reveal the soft plastic inner construction. This is unfortunately a common experience for other members with this particular rep strap as is noted in other threads. These marks are not hugely noticeable and you really have to study the strap up close to catch them, but they are there. The second thing is the dial appears to have light scratches on it around the "9" position. Tried to capture these in the close-up photo. You have to get close and look hard or use a loop to see them. I didn't notice them when wearing the watch. I only caught them later while studying the dial under a loop.

Other than those two issues this watch is in very good to new condition.

Asking $150 including shipping CONUS. Thanks for looking.

Look, I'm not trying to be a dick, but trying to pass off your Chopard on the last page as genuine isn't very cool either. I can tell it's a fake.

There's nothing wrong with buying reps, as long as you don't pass them off as genuine. I'm thinking of picking a few up to "test drive" before dropping money on a genuine one because Calgary Jewelery doesn't usually stock the watches that I want, then giving the reps to friends that don't mind reps.

Or I could sell them to you I guess...

Man, that is pretty weak to post up pictures of a rep only to claim it as real in order to look baller. I'm somewhat torn as to whether this requires a :thumbsdow or a  or a  . However, I'm strongly leaning toward a  at the moment.

Funny, funny shit. Don't bother with the reps.. They won't feel or look anything like the real one.. I got a high quality replica for travel years ago and I wore it once.. Funniest part is that someone noticed the watch so I looked like a douche when I told him it was a replica.. The weight and feel of the real stuff is at least 90% of the fun for me.. The replicas feel wrong and the weighting is almost always way off.

The reps are looking a lot better than a few years ago. Wasn't sure about the weight and feel differences... but ya, just curious how they look in real life more than anything. It's so hard to tell from pics nowadays, my watches look quite different in real life than on the Tag website. I'm pretty sure the website pics are renders.

I have a friend that's looking to buy a Calibre 36 RS2 replica, so it'll be fun to compare with my real one in person to see how close they are in terms of looks.

It is impossible to resist, and not to be a dick or anything, but don't you find it hilarious that the dude with the fake watches who is trying to pass them off as real (on the internet of all places, but I'm sure he does the same in real life) not only drives a BMW, but an M3.. do you think that it is really a 325 with M badging? I've noticed that the popularity of doing that "upgrade" has diminished since the E46/E90/E92 have some more distinctive features that make it harder to "pull off" but man that would be the icing on the cake..

I'm inspired! Maybe I should grab a Type R badge and see if people think that I am actually packing VTEC! I know a minivan usually doesn't come in Type R variants, but maybe people will think it is JDM.

These high quality fakes are one of the main reasons that I've stopped collecting watches. In the past, if there was any doubt if a watch was fake or real, you could always remove the caseback to check the movement as it was usally a poor quality, unfinished movement.

Now, the movements look fantastic. I recently saw some pictures of a knockoff Rolex 3135 movement in a submariner and it was bang on, all the way down to the teflon red color gears and the blue mainspring.

Fakes now a days are insane. I remember finding a youtube video about to dead on this one Rolex was. The movement and everything was perfect, and it also used an older REAL back so it would have the correct serial numbers. The only real issue was that the SN didn't match the one on file for that style.

on a side note...I was thinking about getting this

http://ep.yimg.com/ca/I/movadobaby_2090_481696927

I have very small wrists and my Williams F1 Oris already looks pretty big at 40.5mm, the one above is 42mm.

Way to be an ass. Nothing better to do then to try and call someone out. Big man aren't ya! We know each other in real life, before you try and be a hero on your forums might want to talk to someone face to face. But I know this is one big ego thing for ya.

Did I buy a Big Pilot replica to try out before I bought the gen.

HELL YES!!! I spent $100 insurance to make sure I liked the watch before I went out and dropped a lot more on the gen. I liked it, and bought the genuine watch. I have sinced flipped it for a real investment. It was a bit flashy anyways and I am trying to get away from that appearance.

I guess I am just not as baller as you and am not gonna buy a watch sight unseen.

In fact I recently bought a Graham replica for the same reason. I am suprised at how good the Graham replica is. Not sure I like it enough to go and buy a real one as its a bit uncomfortable, but thats the whole point of buying the replica to see if I like it.

A few years back I had a few reps, and have built a few homage watches that I used to wear regularly but never tried to pass them for real, I don't have any issues with having to keep up with others, also I am not the type of person who tries to publicly embarrass people, not really worth it in my opinion.

Why do you think the Chopard is fake? My wife bought it for Christmas. She bought it a Tourneau in Houston where we have a good relationship. It was used and a good deal. I was excited about a new watch and posted it. Don't see why you had to dig up a thread where I bought a completely different watch a long time ago that was a replica. Explain to me how you can "tell its a fake"? I wish I had the box and papers here in Calgary to post pics but they are at my families place back in Houston, but I guess I don't really have a lot to prove in an internet pissing contest.

I posted pictures of a watch that I was excited about, never tried to pass myself off as something I wasn't, as I am very comfortable with who I am. Just trying to contribute to a thread, guess I should just keep it to myself.

Nothing to do with hero or ego. Even if it was kenny that passed a rep as a gen, I would've done the same thing. It just irks me when people do it. Call it a pet peeve or whatever, I did the same thing with LV shit back when I went through that phase.

I'm looking to do the same thing, thats how I ended up on repgeek. Again, it's the passing off the rep as a gen that bugs me.

The most obvious tell is that the Chopard font is wrong in terms of thickness and spacing. If you genuinely bought that used thinking it's genuine, then I apologize for calling you out. You got ripped off, and should bitch out the dealer that sold you the watch.

btw - here's a rep of the watch:

http://www.perfect-hour.com/cp02102-mile-miglia-gtxxl-chrono-grey-swiss-7750-28800-p-8172.html

Has the same incorrect thicker font as yours.

Another tell is the CHRONOMETER word. On the rep, the C is overextended so it's under the 0 because once again, it's the wrong font. Yours has the same problem.

There's a pic of a gen one here where you can zoom in and see the difference, and how the C in CHRONOMETER lines up exactly with the edge of the 0 from the 10 on the subdial:

http://www.amazon.com/Chopard-Mille-Miglia-Turismo-16-8459-3001/dp/B001CB1LPY

Very surprised that Tourneau would sell you that watch. Makes me think twice about ordering from them. I've been looking at this (http://tourneau.tagheuereshop.com/Watch-Detail/Grand-Carrera/CAV518C-FT6018) from them but was wary of ordering online.

I think that some of what you are seeing is due to the angle, and also that the picture on Amazon appears, to be computer generated straight from the chopard websight.

http://www.nlpwatch.com/v2/popup_image.php?pID=908&image=0&osCsid=97hickbckojqfq7kvoprvqh9e3

The above picture is a closeup of a gen. Note that the C does infact come under the 10. I tried to get a pic of my watch to compare but I can't get a good closeup its always turning out blury.

Whats a bit disturbing besides the cost of that rep is that it appears quite good.

I can see that the Serial # on the back to the rep and mine are different. Can only see the last 2 # in the picture but they are different from what I have.

I did just email Chopard and will call the manager at tourneau to confirm the serial # is genuine.

What kind of camera are you using? Take a straight on pic of the front of the watch, along with the back movement, and I'll be able to tell you in 5 mins if you got ripped off or not. Don't have to shoot too close, just close enough so the camera can focus, and have decent indirect lighting and it'll show all the details.

Or if you're bored I can take pics for you haha.

Yea, I deal with Jeff at CJ and he gives me awesome deals too. They have that exact watch there right now, I was going to pick that up on Saturday and ended up with something else... probably pick that up next month unless you beat me to it lol.

I'm gonna spend some time and try to find this Carrera Date:

http://www.tagheuer.com/the-collection/carrera/men/automatic-chronograph-tachymetre/index.lbl?w=CV201M.BA0794

I'll need to replace it with the rubber strap if I do find it though. If not I'll end up getting the one you posted.

I was just at the TAG outlet in vegas and they were giving some smoking deals. better than over here including exchange. only thing that might get you is the duty. wouldve bought something but the lady wouldnt give me the time of day and there was nobody there.

i deal with matt at CJ.

I am heading to Vegas in April so this intrigues me. Say I buy a nice watch and just wear it and put away the box in the bag or something. Would I still have to pay the duty? I thought it was for brand new things and if I am wearing the watch it's not technically brand new? Unless they want you to pay duty on everything bought on your trip, period.

That.Guy.S30
01-17-2010, 10:53 PM
^ you can wear it home. but if customs pulls you in and asks for the reciept for the watch, then you not only pay the duty on the watch but a fine as well(thats if you didnt claim it). or you can claim it and pay the difference on what they allow you to bring back.

edit: they want you to claim everything you bring back.

Can you just not say I didn't buy it, I've had it from before? Why would I be carrying the receipt of something I've had for a while?

^they might hold the watch until you can prove proof of purchase/warrenty card. usually you can bring your warrenty card and they will accept it.

I was told there's no more duty for Swiss watches coming into Canada, just GST. This is what I found on it:

http://www.international.gc.ca/trade-agreements-accords-commerciaux/agr-acc/efta-aele.aspx

That's why I've started to shop cross border, but so far, Calgary Jewelery has been awesome at getting fairly close to the US prices, within a couple hundred bucks.

One question I have, when you buy a watch in Vegas, do you pay the state sales tax? If so, can you claim it back?

Wow, you guys are cheap fuckers. I thought I was cheap.

Claim it. If you don't and get caught, you will have trouble EVERY time you return to Canada. You file gets flagged.

The Customs agents play a game everyday to see who can bust the most people. A buddy of mine dated a customs agent. She says they play all kinds of games to get people busted.

If you go for longer than 48 hours, you get a $400 exemption.

So for a $2K Tag, you only owe GST on $1,600. I would rather pay the $80 than be hassled every time I come back home.

Yup this is true because I've purchased 2 Omega watches from a USA Authorized dealer and when they shipped it I didn't have to pay duties on both, just GST. Also when the US rates were higher before there was a huge difference in price wise comparing to CJ's discounted prices and that's why I chose to buy from the States. Nothng against CJ and they do give great discounts just at time when the USD was alot stronger, discounted prices from USA MSRP was unbeatable.

As long as they ship the item to your residence out of state, they don't need to charge you sales tax.

Is the "duty" just the 5% GST? or is it an additional charge on TOP of the GST?

Isn't shipping usually more expensive than the GST? haha I guess it would depend how much insurance you put on it, but when dealing with a watch I wouldn't ship USPS. It would come to Canada via Canada Post. CP loses packages VERY often!

In Vegas, you have to pay state tax.

The smart thing to do is to find out if they sell what you want in Seattle. Out of state with no sales tax (Alberta) don't have to pay Washington State tax. Just show them your DL and you are tax exempt.

Got this email from Chopard today:

Dear Sir,

The indicated serial number corresponds in fact to a Mille Miglia Watch GTXL Chronograph in stainless steel. However, on the basis of the numbers alone and without seeing the watch, we cannot certify that your watch in an original Chopard. Considering the important counterfeit business which is developing constantly, in our both interest, we would need to have a close look at your watch in order to assert anything regarding the authenticity of the watch itself.

I also spoke with Tourneau in Houston. The watch had come in on trade last week. They had not yet put in on display. They also have confirmed that the serial # is legit and does not correspond to a "known replica" however they have agreed to take the watch back and refund the purchase price, or they will bring the watch in for comfirmation of authenticity.

Like I said earlier, take a picture of the movement, and we'll be able to tell you pretty quick if it's legit or not. It's kinda sad, but the replicas are getting so good that even AD's are having problems telling the real ones apart without a proper sample to compare to.

Anyways... back on topic.

Wow, so many watch enthusiasts in Calgary. Wish it were like that in Edmonton. Anyway, here is my collection! The Eberle moonphase and the Vestal Zeppelin are for sale for cheap if anyone is interested. I need to make room for more watches!

http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/1537/box1.jpg
This is the group shot! My lovely girlfriend surprised me with this watch box after she realized that me not buying an excessive amounts of timepieces was not an argument she was soon to win

Andddd from left to right:
http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/5568/vestal.jpg
Vestal Zeppelin - This is the 2nd watch I purchased, I decided I wanted to buy the BIGGEST watch I could find. This watch got a TON of compliments and I used it primarily as something to wear out to the clubs. I think the diameter on this thing is something like 55mm :D This one is now for sale in the classifieds as I want to replace it with another "big" watch.

http://img8.imageshack.us/img8/3225/dknyt.jpg
DKNY ? - This was the first watch I got for myself, back when I thought dropping $100 on a watch was crazy (i was 16). Although ill always keep it, I dont think id get another fashion watch again.

http://img24.imageshack.us/img24/6783/eberla.jpg

Eberle Moonphase Automatic - My latest purchase, I was looking around for something with a moonphase and came upon this and ended up getting it! Right when i got it, I found another moonphase I wanted, so this one is up for sale in classifieds.

http://img686.imageshack.us/img686/9272/bulova.jpg

Bulova Marinestar Automatic - My first automatic watch! I bought it randomly because I wanted something automatic with a part skeleton dial so you can see the movement. I ended up loving this watch, its just fits so well, and the blue dial is just amazing. Probably my FAVORITE in the bunch.

http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/5158/movado.jpg

Movado Museum - My first grail watch. The most expensive of the group, but
as soon as I tried it on, I fell in love. This is the first watch to ever be admitted into the museum of modern art, also known as the "boss" watch, since no one can tell the actual time on Movados/the boss never has to be on time :lol::lol: This is my go to guy for work as it looks just unreal dressed up in the office!

Ok so say I buy a watch when in Vegas and it's $600. Then all I pay is the 5% GST at the airport when coming back? If that's the case then it's not that bad of a deal, considering how some people have mentioned that they've saved TONS buying watches over there.

Like I mentioned somewhere in the thread at the start I've always been into Fashion watches but seeing your Tag's makes me want to make the switch. The last one you posted is pretty nice, although most of the one's before aren't really to my taste.

Also where can I find a decent (nothing crazy expensive) box where I can keep my watches. Cause right now they are just lying on one of the shelf of my walk in closet and they look ridiculous. Also how big do they make those? I must have 10 watches or so to put in the box.

Now a last question in regards to the care of watches. So I gifted this Armani watch to my gf for her bday few months back and she wears at literally 24/7. So it was inevitable and she ended up scratching it a little on the front. So I am wondering if there's something you can do to fix those scratches from the glass? I am not sure but I heard there was a spray or something that you rub on the glass and it fixed it or something, I may be wrong though. But is there anything that helps in this matter?

I'd say "fuck it," wear it, and keep your mouth shut. But yes, usually the tax is 5%.

You can buy those watch boxes on eBay, especially the ones with winders. I have yet to buy one because they're... ugly. Cheap though.

Haha the Vegas thing I am gonna see when I get there. Spending tons of money as it is for a friends Bachelor party so I am not even sure if I will want to spend a fair bit on a watch, but I guess depends on my mood at the time.

Since I am noob what's so special about the 'winders'? What are they anyway? Yea they are ugly but they keep them organized and safe, otherwise all my watches are lying on top of each other lol I checked ebay and they have tons although, locally would be preferable.

Anyone heard of these

Yea that's what I am thinking. On that website original price says 2g and they are selling for $730 or something. But even that's too much to spend on a watch I haven't heard of before.

The website is 'members only' so you have to be invited to it. PM me your email address and I can invite you.

though it's not a watch specific website, they run events every couple days for a few days and have all kinds of things like clothes, shoes, jewellery, watches etc. The welder even was some point last month, they have curtis one running now for 2 months, and sometimes when some good deal comes, stuff disappears right away. Anyway you can pm me your email, I will send you the invitation.

It all depends on the watch. If you have to press the button to wait for the led lights to appear then yes, its not instant.
But my brother showed me his when he came back west for the holidays, he picked up the second one there, and its really just a quick learning curve on how to read it. Just have to know what to look at. Nothing wrong with having something unique.

Point taken. Tokyo Flash watches are dependent of buyer's taste, just like any watch style and I'm sure others like it.

But for me, it's just annoying rather than unique.

Nope. Took a week and a day to get here, the case came in a box, which was in another box, which was in another box, with filler in between everything. Very well packed! That seller has tons of those cases on ebay in a variety of wood finishes.

The only downside is that I ended up with 3 boxes of garbage.

Wow that is indeed a sick case, I like how it can hold so many watches. Definitely gonna pick that up. Thanks Rage.

On a side note, the only non-fashion, proper brand watches I've liked are Breitling's. I think they make some of the most beautiful watches and wouldn't mind getting one for myself. But they are crazy expensive as far as I know, although never check them out.

Just found out that they have free iphone apps for Breitling and Tag, gonna check 'em out.

Bahaha, I saw that yesterday too, couldn't figure out wtf it was. Kinda looked like a white version of the Zenith Zero G... but chances of him having that watch was pretty small.
