I was looking at watches and found this one:

http://www.chronowatch.co.uk/img/9/546/1.jpg

I like the overall styling and face. My concern is that a watch with a BOSS logo on it is just going after the name and is likely a piece of crap internally.

Could someone enlighten me if the watch is actually decent or recommend a better one that is very similar style wise?

The main problem I see with this watch, is the leather strap has a proprietary end on it. So, when that leather strap wears out, and you want to replace it, you are going to have to order the correct strap for that watch which will probably be really expensive and will most likely have to be ordered in (unless the store you are buying it from will be carrying extras of that particular strap, which is unlikely). I guess you could buy a regular strap and try to cut a notch in the ends to make it fit, but it probably wouldn't look very good.

Anyone know off or familiar with Swiss Legend watches?
I got their President Sandstone model. On the website it says they retail for $1300. I had it for sale here a while ago, but didn't really get any responses, so just opened the box and thinking of using it.

Are they any good? I am not too familiar with the brand.

Okay, it's not exactly a watch, but is instead an old mantle clock that's been in the family for around 80 years that is in need of some new brass bushings and some new winder keys. Any suggestions as to where to take it? Actually still runs and chimes - just needs a bit of TLC.

Completely agree. They had some very nice watches down a calgary jewelery. Some of the Hublot's were amazing  A little out of my price range tho haha.

I wonder how many companies may just purchaes ebache Orient/Seiko Jap parts, then re-assemble them in their own propriatry fashion (lol) in Helvetica.

It breaks my heart to see Oris use the SW200 in their watches. I have stopped buying their watches because my ETA Oris' keep really good time, and I have heard less than stellar things about Selita movements.

I have an original 1963 Oris Super, and it is within 5 seconds on the day! If it didn't have such a small presence on the wrist I would wear it more often.

Nixon has quite a large selection of affordable all black watches. Not quite the wrist presence of the Hublot KP, but it's also not $23k.

There are no nice reps of the Hublot KPs, doesn't look anything like the real thing, and of course, the foudroyante complication hasn't been repped, so it's an easy tell.

Speaking of the KP All Black, look at what I had on my wrist a few months ago...

It probably won't make that much of a difference. Oris used the most basic ETA movements from Swatch and then slapped a red rotor on them.

The Sellita should be able to keep the same time as those ETA's.

Just a quick question; how often do you guys have to wind your chronograph watches? With the one I bought in Italy this spring, I have to wind it every second day. Im just curious as to whether thats normal, or what "normal" is to you guys. :dunno:
My battery powered watches last years and years without needing a new battery, yet this chronograph seems incredibly power hungry in comparison.

rage2
10-25-2010, 12:21 AM
You shouldn't have to wind an auto if you wear it daily. For manuals they usually have a 3-5 day power reserve.

Chrono doesn't take any more power than non chronos. Power reserve is identical regardless if the chrono is stopped or running.

benyl
10-25-2010, 09:43 AM
One of my watches has a 42 hour power reserve and the other has a 48 hour PR.

If I alternate them every day, I never have to wind either of them.

You can also get an auto winder.

Anybody know of some decent watch winders that won't fuck up my watches, but also don't cost an arm and a leg? I'm getting tired of having to change the time on my watches every time I switch.

I bought mine off ace timer. Not the most amazing quality but it works.

Where is a good place to buy a watch online?

I am wanting to buy a Burberry watch but to me it seems that most places are selling fakes with "Authenticity" cards and "Warranty" cards. They are also going for $200...

I bought one a few years ago off of eBay, and it looked well built, but it started to rust after using it in the water a lot one summer, and also water got in it, then one day only the second hand would move and the others didn't... Don't want to spend +300 on a fake.

^^ if you are that worried (sounds like your first was a fake too) I would buy it from a dealer in town.

Looking to pick up a Nixon (don't really care about the name) 51-30 but after trying it on I'm a little woried about the size of the damn thing haha. It is extremely heavy and thick, I'm sure I'll be bashing it on everything.

How do you guys like the +50mm watches for everyday wear?

Depends on how it looks in proportion to your body. Big watches dwarf my hand so I look like a stole a giant's watch.

That and I have no wrist.

Forearm---Big-ass watch---Hand.

I have one. I've had it for 2 years now. no issues with bashing it around..I wear it everyday, i even sleep with it on. It's heavy..but after time you don't even notice it's on your wrist.

^^ seems expensive. I dont think that will be worth 2/3 of that in a year or two. Not like it is a timeless design to most people.

However, just like most things in live, if you like it do it! Dont let any of us tell you otherwise.
