^^ you were thinking what? :dunno:

IMO the watch is probably over valued. I had my wifes rings appraised at another jewelry store then where we bought it and they gave it a 1k premium than what I paid.....

Since I'm the TAG Heuer expert...

The appraised value is pretty much the last retail value, since you can still buy these things new for about $1800. Used, in mint condition, the Kiriums list for about $900 and actual selling/closing price is closer to the $700 range.

Problem with the Kiriums is that it's a dated design and it wasn't that popular. It's been discontinued, and pretty much forgotten. The new ones floating around are all NOS from old inventory.

The one you posted is far from mint. It's quite beat up. It doesn't look like a rep, but it's missing all the model #'s on the caseback as well as the serial #. The warranty card is from the 90's, so the guy probably got a blank card or it's a fake card. The newer cards from 2000+ looks nothing like that. At a minimum the watch is probably a grey market watch (where they file off all the serials) to hide it's true origin, which automatically knocks another 200-300 off it's value. It could be a really good fake, from what I can tell I'm 90% sure it's not a fake tho. I dunno the fake Kirium market too well.

Cos, that Nixon I posted a few pages back, is pretty funky/nerdy. They have a couple that do the part as well if you're not looking to blow $$ or buy a G-Shock.

Yea, I'm not really concerned with how it looks on my wrist (cause I think it's fine) but I was concerned with it being so annoying. I figured you just get used to it after a while but wasn't sure. Now to decide on what color to get.

Currently wearing a tiny/skinny titanium Swiss Army watch that weights virtually nothing so it's a big change.

You get used to the big sizes very quick. I've learned to move my arm out of the way even when walking around so I don't bump my watch into things.

yeah i wear a huge face watch, at first i was always hitting it on walls and stuff, it sucks.
but yeah you do get used to a huge watch.

aparently big watch faces started with pilots, so they didnt have to refocus their eyes from when looking outside the plane .

I have two of them and love them. They are a heavy watch but I'm a larger person i guess, so I really like the look and feel of them.

Also I'm pretty sure if you hit it off something the other thing will lose the fight. These watches are tanks. I may have a few more of them one day. Just really like the look and feel of them.

Cool, what colors/finish do you have?

Did you buy locally or online? $650 locally vs $400us + shipping + duty online.

I've gathered from some quick google research that there are fakes out there, but they typically are obviously underpriced and don't come with any packaging, manuals, etc.

I bought one locally. The antique steel one which was around the 650 mark. and the other I actualy picked up off my brother and he picked that one up locally. It's the black with red numbers.

I was un salt lake city last week and didn't see the biggest difference in prices.

Started noticing Eddie Jordan's watches throughout the F1 season this year, turns out he's a TW Steel Ambassador (as is David Coulthard), so the brand got TONS of TV time on BBC. Even more so than their sponsorship with Renault F1.

Was at Calgary Jewellery the other day and noticed they carried it and they look really cool in person, especially their 48mm watches. Since it's a relatively new brand, they're not retarded priced either. A better "starter" watch than the TAG Heuer F1 line IMO.

One for Rage's TAG collection.

TAG Heuer Monaco V4 Next Generation - Rose Gold Ruthenium and Ceramic

TAG Heuer Celebrates 150 Years of Pioneering Innovation with a 60-piece Limited Edition of its Transmission Belt-driven Monaco

The double-patented watch is nominated as “Design Watch of the Year” for the 2010 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève Awards

First unveiled at BaselWorld 2004, the double-patented MONACO V4 is the world's first watch with a high-yield mechanical belt drives and a linear rewinding system.

In this new “Next Generation” version, the case is bigger (41mm instead of 39mm) and made of polished 18kt rose gold with fine-brushed silicon nitride “ceramic” inserts.

Other rose gold components are the hand-applied faceted indeces on the dial, the minute and hour hands, the small second hand at 4 o’clock, the thermo-lacquered crown at 3 o’clock, and the strap’s folding buckle. The strap itself is a soft, large-scale alligator, with anthracite hand stitching, titanium inserts and a rubberized leather lining.

Inside, and visible through the timepiece’s AR-coated sapphire crystal front and back, the V4’s avant-garde architecture remains unchanged (tungsten ingot linear mass, two pairs of barrels in series, set in parallel and linked by belts), but the finishes have been completely revisited, with a high-resistance black ruthenium coating on the back plate and the Cotes de Geneva decorated bridges.

The black juxtaposes with the white “V4” and “TAG Heuer” engravings on the dial, and with the patented transmission and rewind white belts, now in high-contrast, high-tech white polymers exclusively developed for this version.

I love the IWC Perpetual Calendars. I almost bought a Da Vinci Kurt Klaus last month for a dress watch... perpetual calendar + chronograph. The used ones have been selling pretty quick ever since Michael Douglas wore one in that Wall Street sequel last month.

Really sweet watch, I found out about the new Rose Gold edition through F1, of all places. TAG CEO promised Lewis Hamilton a RG V4 before it was announced if he won the championship this year. Too bad he didn't win it.

Yup. Check references, make sure they have high post count, make sure they have a long history of sales, and you're good to go.

To be honest the new Movado Bold line has caught my eye lately... Start at around 350 and go up to about 500... not bad for a good quality swiss watch.

hrm 60mm might be pushing it size wise, i have a 47mm on right now and the lugs are still within the width of my wrist, i think a 50mm is the largest i could go. would have to be pushin 300lbs to rock a 60mm i would think

but even if it wasnt that big i still dont think i could pull it off, only style of pam i dont like, just damn ugly

I'm wearing a 46mm and I thought that was big enough, that 60 just looks ridiculous.

IMO nothing i've seen in this thread yet beats a Rado Ceramica multifunction in terms of pure style. But of course that's just my minimalist taste.

Functionally, it's not that great. The crown is small, making it difficult to "spin" and access the different functions. The negative LCD is tough to see in anything but bright light and there is no backlight. The alarm is barely audible, especially when it's being worn.

For the Bold, I don't like that inner bezel; I think it actually ruins the clean look that a Movado is known for. But that's just me.

Nice colors though!

Now for the truly ballin':

The Opera Time-Piece (how MR officially calls it) contains a brand new movement that is manually wound, has a tourbillon and a minute repeater. It was designed by the good people at Fabrique du Temps. Built of 319 parts, the movement is quite nice looking. I do enjoy the silicon escapement, and the combo of brass in various tones and finishes. Makes for a very rich look. While nicely conceived, it is not quite as unique as the watch case, but is still quite attractive. Power reserve is said to be in excess of 100 hours. Plus, the minute repeater plays the hours in A, and the minute in C sharp.

...

Now comes the interesting part. See how the case opens up like the bellows of an accordion? This unique design feature is made to create a resonance cage/chamber to allow for the minute repeater to sound more lively.

...

The price you ask? Well in Manufacture Royale's own words "just like the product - exceptional." And they aren't lying.... $1,200,000. My consumer gland just had an aneurysm.

http://www.ablogtoread.com/manufacture-royale-opera-time-piece-watch/

Most useless watch and waste of money. Enjoy.

Hamilton Below Zero 1000M, came with a black metal strap as well.

Haven't worn this watch much, (>30 days). Looking for interesting trades. purchased at Calgary Jewellry, have both metal and plastic strap, all boxes, manuals, warranty card etc.

Mint condition!

For those of you who have bought from TimeZone in the past, how much duty did you have to pay Canadian Customs for it to be shipped over? I've also heard that watches with croc/alligator straps have problems making it across, or customs would cut the strap in half after examining it.

USPS/Canada Post only charges 1/2 the time, even for a fully declared watch. I don't get it.

Croc straps are a PITA. I was told by Hublot if I travelled internationally with my croc strap, I should bring paperwork and pre-declare it at customs before my travels so I don't run into problems. Don't even wanna think about shipping one.

If Canada Customs opens the package, and sees the strap stamped "alligator", then they will seize it.

I once had a watch shipped with a gator strap, customs removed the strap from the watch (and put a nice scratch on the back of one lug), and sent the watch with a customs bill.

Most guys that specialize in straps won't even ship gator to Canada

You need a special permit or something to legally import alligator/croc products. Something about endangered species list or something? I had no idea croc/gators were endangered.

If it's already imported and purchased, I was told to declare it before travelling, so that when I come back they know I'm not importing it.

Of course you usually won't have a problem. But if you come across the border and they think you're importing it (no proof that you're travelling with it), customs has been known to cut the strap up, or confiscate the watch.

I believe custom officers are highly trained on detecting authentic/fake products, let alone real leather vs synthetic. It's basically their words vs yours. If you can't come up with proof that the strap IS synthetic, they have every reason to snip it in half, and they'll say "Well, shouldn't cost you much to replace a synthetic strap, right?"

Benyl: I think it's hit and miss right? Some people say customs will give you less hassle if it's a complete watch set; and one may face problems if it's just the strap in the package.

Rage: This kinda sucks if customs do get anal about it. Even a "relatively" cheap Omega has croc straps. I'm interested in getting some dress watches from TZ in the future but this strap limitation might deter me from doing so.

Gator/Croc straps can be imported, just needs paperwork. You can hire a customs broker to deal with the proper CITES permits required, or you can try and do it yourself (good luck!)

http://www.ec.gc.ca/cites/default.asp?lang=En&n=7E56589B-1

Croc/Gator straps belts, etc. are pretty much all Appendix II items, so you would need a CITES export permit from the US, accompany it with the shipment, and it'll work. It might be easy, or it might not be. Our government is kinda random haha.

I have it listed in the marketplace for $1000. Paid $1200 last december and have rarely worn it. List price is $1695 @ Calgary Jewellry.

I dont have pics of the metal strap, it is this style, http://www.hamiltonwatch.com/gents/khaki/navy/?id=H78555133 only black to match the rest of the watch.

PM me your email / phone number, and I can text / email you some pics.

I would consider buying a $40 dremel tool, some polish a 3M scotchbrite pad and doing it on your own. If you take it slow, tape off the areas you don't want polished/brushed you should be fine.

Taking it to a jeweller ususally means that stick it on the buffing wheel and it will look great, but it removes a lot of metal and usually the edges wont be as sharp.

+1. These guys are awesome. I took my Rolex there a few years back because it kept dying every few hours after winding it. They fixed it, buffed it, and gave me an extra 6 months warranty (total of 18 months) for no particular reason other than because they said they liked my watch. 10+ years later it's still running strong.
