I was thinking of getting a movado as a graduation gift (for myself). I was looking at either the Luno 0605556, Juro 0605023 or the sports edition 0605788 wich is a bit more expensive.

My favorite is the Fiero 0605621, but it is too expensive.

Opinions on these watches?

What is the duty on importing from the states (5% + GST)?

Thx

So its the car's clock incorrect or the watch??? 11:07 or ten to one?

Personally, I've only got a few. Seiko Kinetic, Tag Heuer Sport are the ones of note.

My grandfather was a cheap Scotsman, and worked at J. Vair for 30+ yrs as their master jeweler. He swore by Seiko. LOL, tell Kenny Anderson that.

He passed away a few years ago, but has some really neat watches that the family has hidden away. There's a very rare Howard pocket watch, that I should try and get a pic of. It's gorgeous, great wedding watch.

I'm thinking of getting a Tissot next. Great watches, as mentioned previously, and reasonably priced.

Sadly, my post doesn't have pics, I'll try to get some of the family's collection.

Look at Hamilton and Oris. Both lineups are well made budget brands that can be bought for under $1000. Check online through reputable sellers for the best prices.

I am looking for another watch under these conditions, let me know what your thinking:

- ~$1000.00
- minimum 40mm bezel
- Saphire Crystal
- Circular Body
- Doesnt matter on the strap
- Either enclosed or skeleton, doesnt matter
- Doesnt matter if it is Auto or not, no self winding

- NOT made by the following companies:
- Citizen
- Swiss Army

To give you an idea, I dont like any of the new Seiko's and I dont like the new Tag F1 watch. Look to plastically for a $1000+ watch.

I'm thinking about offering a beyond.ca store to give you guys access to deep discounts on watches. Any interest? I'll post a list of brand names when they are available and if you'd like more information, feel free to drop me a message.

If anyone is currently shopping for watches, let me know the brands and model and I will see what I can do.

what does everyone think about nixon watches? I dont know what kind of movement they use or anything but some of their newest designs I quite like. They also seem expensive to be a cheapo watch maker (like fossil)

Are they the crap that I think them to be?

they use japanese quartz movements for the most part, they make a few higher end pieces that are in the 1-2g range that have chromatic japanese movements. they have some pretty cool styles and the watches are pretty tough. i have one, i think it is the banks model. it has a nice weight to it and i wear it when i travel and when im up at the lake

EDIT: turns out there chromatic watches are swiss made, also have a few other swiss made movements too

I really liked it to be honest. The Saphire Crystal coveres the bezel screws, it looks really sharp. I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone though.

I had one for a while. I loved the watch but found it hard to wear. Because it was on a rubber strap I didn't like wearing it to dress up, and the Rose gold was a little too much for casual.

 Um .. depends on which brand ..

Baume & Mercier/Tag/Omega/Oris .. may be 20-25% area depends on model ..

Breitling/Tag etc .. probably more ..

Cartier ... Rolex .. no way .. unless old models or ladies ..

( Calgary Jewellery don't sell Rolex .. )

Actually .. those Bell and Ross are really really cool .. and ~ $3-4K for a 46 mm .. quite nice .. :) (after discount from C J ;) )

I really like my Oris. Go see Dane in Maximes at Market Mall, he was really helpful when I bought mine...

Like I said earlier in the thread that I am more into designer brands, this is the latest one I got. It's a Louis Vuitton Tambour Chronograph

http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1334/803189206_a12a7e8e98.jpg (not the actual pick, but looks like it.)

This is almost my first leather strap watch ever, all my other watches are chain bracelet style. I usually don't fancy leather straps, but saw this in Paris on Champs Elysees and fell in love with it and the gf bought it as a Christmas present.

U boat is nice ..

But .. I never know they are $4K ???

Or $4K for their higher model?? IMO .. if 4K (street price) go for BELL ROSS for huge and great style .. or Breitling for big size and traditional .. :)

Nice man, I have the same watch, the strap totally fell apart on me though.

What does a replacement strap for one of those cost? Looks like it has proprietary ends on it, so you probably can't buy an OEM strap unless you cut out some notches.

I think it was around $400 when I priced it out, it's a nice watch performs well, I'm just unsure as to who makes the movements. If I did it all over again i would probably get something else. Still love it though.

Mine came with a 5 year guarantee, but I am not quite sure if that covers straps though. But maybe worth looking into.

How much was it in France? Heard LV is cheaper out there.

12-22-2008, 06:34 PM
I would say it is a bit cheaper over there yes. I had looked at the same watch in California and it was near about $5,500 US. And I paid 3,250 euros which turns out to be just over $4,500 US. I didn't even realize this was the case but I am not complaining. I suppose it makes sense though, LV being French and all.

I stopped by Calgary Jewellery to check out the watches today. It is by far the best Jewellery shop i've dealt with. I walked in having my mind set on purchasing an Oris and ended pulling the trigger on a Concord  . Got a great deal on the watch so I can't complain.

Nice, which one did you get? I was eye-ing an Ebel and a Concord when I was in Vegas this past weekend.

From the position of the subdials and the date, it looks like a ETA 7753. I have the same movement in a Sinn chronograph.

It’s an automatic Mariner model. Might even be an discontinued model. It looks like its fitted with a nicely decorated ETA 2892-2 movement with clear display back. The watch itself is nothing special at all. It makes a good causal daily/dress watch.

The Mariners are great watches... so thin and light weight

and yeah they still make them.

does yours have the divers bezel? what colour is the face?

Watches @ retail are retarded, a lot of watch collectors end up selling a certain model for a loss, at which time we snap them up, barely even worn, at a huge discount.
