Who were the VIP visitors to Calgary?

Last week there must have been someone pretty important here in Calgary. There was a huge police entourage that had about 20 cops on motorcycles, numerous unmarked cars, and suburbans. They blocked off all kinds of major roads and made travel even more inconvenient that usual.

I saw the entourage at the Government building (McDougall Center) and the Petroleum Club.

Does anybody know who was visiting?

I saw this too and a few of us bus passengers talked and it seems that they were practising in case someone really important came to town. I don't know but all I know is that they sure do pick the best times to practise (middle of rush hour traffic)

Yes he's famous but he no longer has any ties to the US government. That and the fact that I don't think he is very popular with industry and our governments leads me to believe it was someone else.

But maybe it was for him...kind of ironic though...to have such a huge energy wasting entourage for Captain Save the Earth.

Pretty sure you get the Secret Service treatment for life when you are a former president, vice-president or speaker of the house. I think their children get it too.

He may no longer have direct ties, but I am sure he still a very influential man.

Yeah I saw this on TV, former presidents get protection for life.... I think prime minsiters get RCMP treatment for a year once they are done. And its like 1 or 2 guys checking up on them lol

Yeah it was pretty stupid seeing all these cops stopping traffic for a few other cars. I mean, really, they get off their bikes, stop all traffic, wait for the huge entourage of bikes / cars / vans / trucks to turn left and then get on their bikes and ride off again.

gave you chills to see that stuff sometimes, 20 motorcycle cops blazing a trail through town, followed by the requisite black suburbans.

haha ya hungarian pres, he stayed at the hotel i worked at :D it was neat when he left...they had the bomb sniffing dogs out front and had the whole street blocked off while the police escort and all the other vehicles involved formed up. I even got to say good bye to him :P

Which hotel you work at?

Theres were signs posted in a certain hotel of Department of Justice or something and security guards were roaming the halls on that particular floor...maybe this was someone different?
