With the huge number of legal and organized racing events available in Calgary to enthusiasts, there should be no reason why one should attend a street racing event. beyond.ca encourages all "street racers" to try your hand at these events that are made possible to keep the racing where it belongs, at the track!

Drag Racing
Face it. Street racing kills... maybe not people, but definately the scene. Even attending these illegal events can cost you, exhaust tickets, tinted window tickets. Why are the police going after any mods? It's to curb the illegal street racing meets, trying to teach the kids a lesson. In the end, it hurts us all, even the ones that do not illegally race. TAKE IT TO THE TRACK! Secret Street at Race City provides a safe and professional environment to get the speed out of your system.

It costs $5 to spectate, $20 to race your car, $10 for additional drivers. Much cheaper than a $300 stunting/racing ticket! Plus, the events are professionally timed, so you know how fast your vehicle actually is. Forget bench racing, timeslips will tell you how fast your car REALLY is!

Autocross (Solo II)
Solo II is the SCCA brand name for autocross competition. Solo II events are driving skill contests that emphasize the driver's ability and the car's handling characteristics. This is accomplished by driving a course that is designated by traffic cones on a low hazard location, such as a parking lot or inactive airstrip. In Calgary, the CSCC events are run on the oval (with a course in the middle as well as the bankings) and the south half of the roadcourse. While speeds are no greater than those normally encountered in legal highway driving, the combination of concentration and car feedback creates an adrenaline pumping experience. With only 4 chances to get a "perfect run", you feel like you're qualifying for an F1 race!

You don't have to be a member to run at a Solo II event, but it's cheaper to do so. Membership costs $35/year. It costs $25 to run a Solo II event as a CSCC Member, $40 if you're not. You have to be a member to qualify for the CSCC Rookie championship, where you can win a set of R compound tires for your car!

Because this is a timed event, with cars classed and indexed based on it's performance, you can compare your "mad skills" with other drivers in the community, how well you rank against the veterans. Don't have a powerful car? No worries, the indexing system makes it so a 82hp car can beat a 500hp car... it's all about the driver! Cueman and his 90hp AE86 Corolla demonstrated that a well sorted out low HP car with excellent driving skills can destroy the competition!

beyond.ca Roadcourse Lapping Nights
For the hardcore crowd who want to learn how to drive around a racetrack like a pro and improve their highspeed driving skills, we offer roadcourse lapping sessions. This is not a race, but a way for you to improve your day to day driving skills, as well as allow you to go all out in your vehicle. With higher powered vehicles reaching over 250km/h on the straights, it's the biggest adreneline rush available. It costs only $100 a night for these events, and you can easily burn through 2 tanks of gas going all out around a real racetrack!

Instructors are on hand at all events to provide any assistance you may require. Additionally there are many qualified people who can ride along with you in your vehicle to help you learn the roadcourse.

Because of the speeds and skills required to get started, you must first attend a driving school before participating in these events. CSCC offers a roadcourse school yearly, and Jay Pringle offers a course monthly. On slow nights, you can get into a beginners class at the event for $150 (depends on demand and # of participants). Please contact Fuji (http://forums.beyond.ca/private.php?s=&action=newmessage&userid=180), our trackday co-ordinator for more information.

Please note that timing is NOT allowed at these events due to insurance regulations. If you want to be timed, please see the Solo I information below. For schedule, check out our Events Section (http://forums.beyond.ca/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=5)

Solo I Roadcourse
Solo I is a mix between our lapping days and Solo II events. Instead of a coned low/medium speed course, it's a high speed qualifying style lap to get the best time on the roadcourse. This is the stepping stone to wheel-to-wheel roadcourse racing! Because availability is limited, please check with the CSCC web boards for schedule and additional information.
