Just wondering if anybody have your TD auto premium increased this year even though you have no claim/no ticket/no changes to the policy? Some friends of mine have their premium increased from $140 to $200 per year in their renewal slips, and the insurance says it's because they changing the territory rating. Wondering if that's true.

My TD car insurance actually decreased about 20% for no reason upon renewal.

they are saying due to increase in inflation so my 50 grand coverage has increased to 60 grand so my premiums increase. It is done every year and only changes if inflation rises.

I hit two milestones: 5 years driving and 21 years old. I got a huge discount.

I've been with Meloche Monnex for 5 years, my premium didn't go up at all this year.

Did your friend receive any tickets in the past year? Even one will bump you off their best rate to the next best (as I found out last year)

mine goes down every year too. another thing to consider, my sister's went up last year. she bought a mazda 6 when it came out. and since it was a brand new car the rating for the car was not established. last year her insurance went up because of that.

Has anything significant changed in your credit rating? Most insurance companies will view your credit history and there is at least one for sure that uses the information to "adjust" your rates.

my rates didn't change. Sometimes owning a 15+ year old car has its advantages :)

Thanks for your replies. No, nothing change. No Ticket. No policy change. Same living ocation. Same living situation. A friend has been with Meloche Monnex and it's increased closed to $200. Another is with TD premium increased closed to $150.
For Meloche Monnex, they say the neighboorhood becomes bad. For TD, they say it's because the statistics for the car has been bad last year. Well, it's a time for a new insurance shopping.

If you have any recommendation for a good (or better) insurance company, please do reply.

Call several insurance brokers, they can come up with some very good rates.

ing or wawanesa, monnex isnt that bad though. i deal with these companies everyday, i'd pick them over ama/statefarm/all state etc anyday.

ing gives me pretty good rates now too :)

Mine went up about $3.00 per month with a clean record and they gave the same excuse. It was higher and I called them on it, and they said they made a mistake and brought it down to the $3.00 more per month. I can live with that. Everything in Calgary seems to be getting more expensive.

Are you on some sort of a montly term? My rates are set for 12 months (anual), and they jsut add tax and divide by 12 to find my monthly rates. My rates don't vary from month to month...

BTW can someone inform me on Meloche Monnex only providing insurnace for alumni/groups?

They work mine out anually, for some reason my rate went from 179-169-209 in the matter of 3 months. Meloche Monnex does prefer the upper scale, so to speak for customers, i guess they are a lower risk for insurance:dunno:. If you how ever have family that is already with them, you can have a policy as well!

I guess this is the appropriate thread to ask my question.

I thought I remember hearing from Meloche Monex that if you gave your car more than a certian percentage HP over stock, they would no longer insure you. I don't really want to call and ask, because they will probably write on my file "probably has alot of mods" haha, and then not insure me if I crash. Anyways, does anyone have a heavily modified car that TD knows about and is insured?

Thanks.

I've been insured with them for 3 years now, and after switching 5 cars, I've only been asked "Is there any modifications on the car?" once

They ask me every time I call them haha. I think my chip already puts me over or close to the percentage they told me that I could not be modified past...and now I am planning on going Stage 3 this summer and may have to explore other insurance options. I don't have collision however, so maybe that will help my case.

Fuck TD, I switched to RBC a couple months ago and went down over 150 a month with a third of the deductible...

Meloche Monnex is a good insurance company they took care of my needs very well, however you need to know whom to speak to. The reason being they tend to have power trips and decide your premium without even asking you about options and such.
