Well I thought I was going to be paying 400$, but some other user offered 500$. I needed a laptop, and I thought I was getting a good deal for 500$ so I bought it at that price.

Anyways I'm guessing a reset means a system restore? When I put the system restore cds in though, the laptop doesn't react much, sometimes gets up to the loading screen, sometimes just freezes.

I would assume a reformat of the computer is needed, but that's just my guess.

That doesn't sound good...

A system restore will fix a messed up OS on the hard drive... but if you're putting in the system restore CDs and not much is happening that means that it's trying to boot off of the system restore CDs and is still freezing....

If I were you I'd try to boot up with a WindowsXP installation CD. If you can't get to the point where you pick which hard drive you want to install it on then there's something wrong with the laptop and no system restore will fix it.

if the restore doesn't respond u have bigger issues than just software .... my sisters toshiba laptop harddrive had to be replaced .... but after that ... smooth running!

why not just ask the guy you bought it from who else was offering $500 and sell it to that person?

Original seller probably pulled the standard "Someone just offered me 500 dollars 10 seconds before you offered although this has been on the marketplace for weeks" tactic.

Anyways, sounds like the computer just needs a format and a fresh start. Try getting someone who knows a bit about these things to reformat the computer and you should be okay.

I was the one offering more money. I don't have time to mess around with a fresh install, so I'm just going to find something working.
