Pretty neat. I love the BOV at the end.

Is it BS that BOVs are not necessary below 20psi?

Yes, why else would every stock turbocharged car come with one? The only time I've heard of them not being used is on hardcore drag cars, as they shift fast enough to avoid the compressor surge (also, I doubt rebuilding turbos is a big deal to the teams).

Stock cars come with them? Not exactly, they're more accurately called compressor bypass valves on stock vehicles, they don't need to dump to atmosphere, but dump back into the inlet side of the turbo. I have an aftermarket bypass valve on my supercharged car that does the same thing as a bov but without the noise.

An aftermarket BOV, in 90% of the cases is really only better then the factory bypass valve for getting attention from the noise it makes. One of the negatives if a BOV is that the "releasing the air to atmosphere is that it has already been metered by the mass air sensor (MAS), and when it blows off the ECU will be injecting the wrong amount of fuel into the cylinders.(The MAS reads ten air units, say, and the ECU tells the injectors to squirt the right amount of fuel for ten air units. But then five of those air units are vented off to atmosphere, and only five make it to the cylinders, and five more have to be drawn from the outside air, through the MAS again) so the engine temporarily runs extremely rich, meaning too much fuel is injected into the cylinders."

Here's an article: http://web.archive.org/web/20051016022753/http://features.evolutionm.net/article/machvcorner/29

I don't care one way or the other, but they're not a requirement on most turbo cars.

I know all that, I thought you were asking if ANY blow off valve (or bypass valve  ) is neccessary. Upgraded valves are definitely not something most cars need, but it varies from car to car. Also, if the BOV is placed further downstream than the MAF then your statement about the negatives of atmospheric dump is pwnt.

btw, you must be bored if you're picking fights like this ;) www.addictinggames.com

mopar and turbo xs seem to be the most functional based on sound. They sound more racing style, I'd get the mopar.
