I am seriously considering swapping a B16 into my 89 Accord near the end of the summer. Anyways, there is not a lot of work involved in the swap, i checked into it... Anyways, i want to know how much a B16 would cost approximately.. Silent Rage says $1200 US on their webpage including a tranny.... I would prefer an automatic tranny because i kinda like them, and it is a lot less work and money to stick with an auto.

Do the SIR engines even come with an automatic tranny?

I dont know, I was assuming they do, or a normal civic auto can be used but I am not sure... could someone clear this up for me?

thanks

if you want an auto b16 it would have to be a jdm engine. i believe some integras came with it.

weirdly enough they came with b16s in some lower models in other markets. my buddy was in Qatar and he had an integra xsi or some shit with a b16..i think it was an auto as well. i think the b16s where the LS integra and other 4 doors..HTH

Thanks a lot for the info, I will look into that because I would probably want a JDM engine anyways.

I think your best bet is to get a JDM B16 and mate it with a auto tranny out of a 90-93 teg

why don't you just go with a jdm b20(1stgen for 86-87 preludes or 86-89 accords) they have the same hp and alot more torque. they are cheaper, and very easy to swap in. they don't require new mounts like the b16 and are well suited to an auto tranny. the only problem with them is finding one with a manual tranny. but since you want to stick with auto, it shouldn't be a problem.
b16 in heavy accord=
b16 w/auto in accord=

b20 with no aftermarket =
might as well get an h22 if he wants something with more torque

Fitting the H22 in the '89 would not be easy. I would suggest the B20 for sure. B16 just doesn't have enough torque and I can't see it making the car very much faster. (what is it? like 111Ib/ft of torque?) Any way B20 is the way to go.

why put a lower displacement engine in anyways?? a b20 would definatly be the best idea:thumbsup:

i tought h22s were around 3000?

Ya im am thinkin of the B20 now, but I was wondering.. what is the aftermarket support like for the B20, can u get a lot of parts for them?? because if you can not, then maybe a B18 would be the way to go?!

And yes, an H22 would take way too much work to put into an 89 accord.

jason i think there is enough aftermarket support of the b20, there lots of done up 87-91 ludes. You can always make a frankinstien motor :D

ok first off before you start thinking about swapping in a fuel injected motor, is it fuel injected or carbeurated?

thats a HUGE stumbling block if its not, and extremely expensive to do.

this is true.
3rd gen preludes = black sheep of the honda family
if you want an engine that has great aftermarket support, you definitely don't want the b20

im pretty sure jackson racing has a supercharger for the b20

Ya, I want an engine that has good aftermarket support, but if there is a jackson supercharger, then that would be pretty sweet... and yes the car is fuel injected. The Se-i is the top model equiped with a 122hp 110lb ft, 4cyl.

Just bringing this thread back up again.. I have a few more questions.

The B20 engine comes from which generation prelude? and does it also come from the CRV? And how much do they go for? $$

I originally wanted to swap in a B18, but the prices on them that I have found are too high, which is too bad because then the car would really fly.

B20s come in third generation preludes (87-91) in teh form of the B20A5 in the normal preludes, and the B21A1 for the 90-91 prelude Si. The difference is 140hp compared to 110hp for the 2.0L Si.
Yes CRVs have B20 engines, but they are B20Bs in 97-98 CRVs and B20Z in the 98-01 crvs. HTH
