The web site for the Alberta Top 10 is now running. It's purposes are as follows:

- Maintain & display the official list, updated as entries are received.
- Additional avenue to accept entries to the list.
- Forum for general discussion about the list.
- Allow vehicle sponsorship and other information to be posted freely.

You don't have to register to be able to view the current standings, however if you wish to post in the forum, you will be required to register. A valid e-mail address is all that is required.

Nice time. I know the MPH is 6-7 mph off in the right lane that night. I ran 11.9 at 113 in the right lane which NEVER EVER happens. All my times for 11.9x ET's that night are 120-121.

As soon as I got my timeslip I avoided the right lane completely that night.

Congrats on your time.

There were several entries received for the Alberta Top 10 listing during this update period. It's still early on in the season and many of the really quick cars have not run. If you want to get on to the list, please be sure to submit your timeslips. Even if you can't get into the current Top 10, and you want to know where you stack up against those submitting times - just submit your slip and you will appear on the master listing which is published in all threads Monthly beginning at the end of June 2007.

The most current list is always displayed in the forums at the newly opened website, www.albertatop10.ca. The list is updated and maintained on several locally based websites. You can find the list and make your submission to the list at www.beyond.ca, www.780tuners.com, www.srt4oa.com and www.performance-shop.com. If you frequent other local (Alberta based) forums and would like to have the list maintained there as well, please feel free to leave the forum web address with me in a PM.

This is really the second update to the list, and there were many new timeslips submitted. The Top 10 spots are now occupied, and thus a number has been established which you must run in order to get into the Top 10. Obviously as time progresses it will become harder and harder to obtain a spot. There are still vacant spots on the honorable mention list, and as such any submission will at the very least occupy those remaining spots.

Here's the update.
#1 Spot has no change this week. The #2 spot is newcomer to the list joses13 in his quick 1989 Nissan Silvia. The car made the semi-finals in his class at Power To The Pavement before being eliminated by a pesky silver skittle, but his time of 12.607 @ 109.18 currently takes #2. #3 spot is also a newcomer to the list. Speeddm in his 1990 Skyline GTR ran 12.663 @ 109.04 at Fairview 1/4 Mile Dragstrip. #4 goes to gpomp and his 1995 Honda Civic running 12.842 @ 100.28. (Duly noted the trap speed was about 6-7mph off...low...on that night at Race City!) And then here we go again with the skittles. Taking spots 5 thru 7 are Dodge SRT-4's. #5 spot is occupied by Adam_srt who ran a 12.859 @ 105.25 at Race City. EDISKRAD EHT runs a 13.014 @ 109.91 at Castrol taking #6 and Bloodfart runs 13.3 @ 107.77 at Race City. Our #8 spot was formerly #2, bumped a lot of positions this update. #9 is held by inline6turbo in _her_ 1991 Nissan Skyline GTR running 13.958 @ 96.21 at Race City. Rounding out the Top 10 we have NYGACR who was also bumped many positions this week. Revhard gets punted from the list and takes the first spot atop Honorable Mention. A newcomer to the list, An0maly takes the second spot on the honorable mention list with his Cobalt running 14.085 @ 99.39mph.

I've seen several cars run this year that could be taking spots on the Top 10. If you're on the list, or just know about the list, and know someone who could be in the Top 10 - tap 'em on the shoulder, tell them to visit www.albertatop10.ca (or one of the other websites where the list is published) and get their timeslip submitted.

That's it, next update will be June 18th or 19th from entries received on or before June 17th.

June 18th Update:

Can’t Stop Spinning ran an 11.291 @ 125.94 mph. This pass in his 2004 Dodge SRT-4 takes the number one spot on the Alberta Top 10 list. But that’s not all. With this quick pass, he adds two new records to his already record setting SRT-4. Last year this Dodge laid claim to the Fastest 4-Cyl FWD pass in Alberta, as well as the Fastest SRT-4 in Canada. Now he takes two more records to solidify his absolute domination of the 4-Cyl FWD class and SRT-4’s in general. Oh, yeah, I nearly forgot to mention – this Dodge is running completely stock internals on the stock block. Wow! No nitrous either.

New records for Can’t Stop Spinning:

Quickest 4-Cyl FWD pass in Alberta.
Quickest SRT-4 in Canada AFAIK.

Formerly held by ITLGO, aka me, with 11.371 ET. Margin = 0.08 seconds. (Bastard!) His 128.22 mph trap speed on another pass from 2006 set the following records:

Fastest 4-Cyl FWD pass in Alberta.
Fastest SRT-4 in Canada AFAIK.

With a few SRT-4’s receiving purpose built motors this year, it will be interesting to see how long these records will hold. Unfortunately the car didn’t make it away from the track unscathed, and the car was also punted from the track for violating the track rules for safety equipment. (ie, no roll protection, no harness, etc.)

Lastly, what some skeptics will probably not like is there is no printed timeslip for the 11.291 pass as the printer didn’t print a slip. The handwritten slip by Castrol is all we’ve got. I’m accepting the time to the list however, as I’m certain it is valid based on the cars past performance and his valid back-up pass of 11.476 (which does have a printed slip). I’ve personally had the rather annoying experience of running my fastest pass ever when no timeslip was produced. In the end – this isn’t going to be the #1 spot when this year is over. There are just way too many big hitters waiting to swing the bat. Bottom line, shit happens.

Lococoin rejoins the list for 2007 in his 1990 Honda Civic DX Hatchback with a 12.499 @ 111.96 pass at Castrol. This pass slots him in nicely at the #3 position on the Top 10.

Newcomer to the list, and taking the #9 position is Anthony in his 2003 Acura RSX running a quick time of 13.182 @ 108.48 in Medicine Hat. This car won his class (True Street) at the 2007 Power To The Pavement event. Congratulations.

NYGACR, already holding a spot on the list with his 1996 Dodge Neon improved his time to 13.580 @ 100.12 at Castrol Raceway. Time improvement was the result of slicks. Unfortunately with the other positions taken in the Top 10, this time now falls to the honourable mention list in the #2 spot. Up one spot from where his previously submitted time would have fallen, and only 0.004 seconds from moving up an additional spot.

This pushes Bloodfart to the bump position on the Top 10, and it pushes An0maly to the final bump position. Time to get to the track and run some faster times guys!

If you're on the list, or just know about the list, and know someone who could be in the Top 10 - tap 'em on the shoulder, tell them to visit www.albertatop10.ca (or one of the other websites where the list is published) and get their timeslip submitted.

That's it. The next update will be July 2nd (approx.) from entries received on or before July 1st.

Update: July 3, 2007

My Z gets on the list in #3 position with an 11.905 @ 119.55. Full weight and pump fuel so I guess that’s not too bad. After the night of racing was over, the Z blew a head gasket. Odd thing IMO for low boost settings used with pump fuel. I guess it will be away from the track until that is repaired. This is the third 11 second Sport Compact / Import car on the Top 10.

Chindian ran a low 12 second pass. 12.117 @ 117.27 mph at Race City. However, he’s not submitting his time for the list. His car is an 11 second car on a normal air day, so I guess we’ll be waiting for an 11 second time before we see Chindian on the Top 10.

Lococoin improves his time to 12.370. No position change, but apparently he also ran an 11.85x time but failed to back it up. If that’s the case, he’s got 45 days for that back-up pass and you can expect him to be moving on up the list pretty soon.

HPR ran a 13.299 @ 107.47 in his 1990 Nissan 240sx at Race City. Since we have one new car taking the #3 position, that time no longer lands in the Top 10. It does however slot in as #1 on the honorable mention list.

This bumps both Revhard and An0maly from the list. Time to hit the track again and go quicker!

Next update will be July 16th, 2007 from entries received to that point. (Approximately)

Good time. With such a crappy DA (5100+ Feet), and no track prep to speak of (unless you count synthetic diff oil as prep) that's a very very good time. And your interior was in too. Amazing time really.

Gut that interior, get a good air day and you're going to run 11's in that thing. Sweet. :D

UPDATE #3, July 17th, 2007.

Only a couple of entries received for the Alberta Top 10 listing during this update period. The weather has been very hot and less than ideal for drag racing the past couple of weeks. But still a couple folks managed good times and have submitted them to the list. These two new entries make it more difficult to get onto the Top 10 list – now you need to run 12.859 or quicker.

GoChris ran a 12.428 @ 114.95 mph in his 2004 Dodge SRT-4. Just another SRT-4 onto the Alberta Top 10 list for 2007. The pass had a full interior and was done at a time when the DA was 5310 feet. Look for better times from this car in the near future. This will take the #5 position.

NA POWER ran a 12.737 @ 109.36 mph in his 1993 Honda Civic DX. I believe a set of slicks responsible for this cars time improvement. Good job, and this time lands the #8 position on the list.

With these two new entries to the Top 10, that means two people get booted from the list. NYGACR, 1996 Dodge Neon, 13.580 @ 100.12, Castrol Raceway [Slip] and inline6turbo, 1991 Nissan Skyline GTR, 13.958 @ 96.21, Race City [Slip]

The next update will be on or about July 30th, 2007 from entries received to that point.

UPDATE #4, July 29th, 2007.

There were several timeslips received during this update period. One new-comer, and all other times received were in fact new personal bests for the 2007 season. A few minor positions shuffles, and as it turned out, if everyone didn’t improve their own time, they would have been falling down the list. It’s that competitive. I guess the message is that if you want to hold a spot on the list, you have to keep improving. Duly noted, passes have been made by a 4-banger in Calgary faster than the current #1 position. Purpose built race car, but still, quicker.

The 10 second timeslip still eludes the list. I have a strong feeling that it will happen this year though – a 10 second pass and a back-up pass to go with it. That’d be nice. Someone get this done already!!

Down to business. Lococoin is making me word harder than necessary. Not only in the maintenance of the list, but at the track. He ran an 11.855 @ 116.03 at Castrol and that forced me to post my personal best for the SRT-4 in order to hold the position. So, my 11.838 @ 117.59 done at the Power To The Pavement Event in Medicine Hat was submitted at the 780tuners thread for my SRT-4. The Z has also run quicker than the SRT-4 has, so I submitted an 11.829 @ 121.40 which was run on July 27th in Calgary. When it’s all sorted out, the Z lands in #2, the SRT-4 lands in #3 and the Civic lands in #4. Go run quicker!! FYI, the SRT-4 isn’t going to go any quicker unless it runs in Edmonton.

Some more time improvements – GoChris ran a 12.229 @ 114.62 mph in Calgary. GoChris was running some pretty impressive 60 foots for FWD in Calgary. 1.7x is very good. His 12.229 pass lets him retain his #5 position on the list. Joses13 improved his personal best to 12.373 at 113.43 mph in Medicine Hat. Not sure how much is left in that car, but I think GoChris will crack the 11 second mark when racing weather improves. Both are good runs guys.

NA POWER improves his personal best to 12.656 at 106.04 mph in Calgary. This one is good to snag position #6. 0.007 is all that splits #6 and #7. That’s tight.

Newcomer to the list, MoparSRT4 ran a 12.826 @ 112.03 at Castrol Raceway. You guessed it [as if it wasn’t totally obvious], yet another Dodge SRT-4 on the list. This takes the #9 position, and since it’s a new car to the list, someone is getting bumped!!!

Bumped is Stephen and his Mitsubishi. You’re going to have to run even quicker now. That places Bloodfart and his Dodge SRT4 on the bump position.

You must now run quicker than 12.842 to obtain a spot on the Top 10. You must run quicker than 13.3 to take a spot on the honorable mention list. With the Street Car Challenge coming up on August 4th, 2007 at Race City, you can expect there will be new entries and time improvements (hopefully) to the Top 10 list. See you all there.

UPDATE #5, August 15th, 2007.

The only numbers going down faster than the stock market are those put up by Lococoin. His new personal best at Castrol will take the #2 spot on the list. His ET is nearly into the Roll Protection required area. An 11.566 @ 120.49 mph. His backup pass is an equally impressive 11.621 @ 118.81 mph. Oh, and I think he’s also set the quickest 60 foot ever submitted to the Alberta Top 10 by a FWD. Forget 1.8’s or 1.7’s and let’s talk 1.6’s!!! Wow. Very impressive numbers and congrats!! All you’ve got left to knock off is one pesky little SRT-4 and the #1 spot is yours. This moves Lococoin from #4 to #2 and bumps both of MY cars down one spot each.

One other entry received for this update, and that’s all. It’s a Dodge SRT-4 that ran 12.785 @ 103.36mph. This was actually done a while ago, and the time was finally submitted in one of the several Top 10 threads. Congrats to Squeek360 on his excellent time, oh yeah, stock turbo by the way! Wow. This time takes the #9 position on the list.

Other improvements, GoChris ran a 12.0x time at Race City. He’s not submitting the time slip just yet. Probably he is going to hold out for that 11.9x time he is so very close to getting. More non-entries that I can think of…well, Chindian ran a 12.04x time at Race City – again no submission as he too is waiting (I suspect) for that 11 second pass before posting a time slip. Ham Sammich ran … well, he ran! And that’s more than I can say for some people. Looking forward to 3 more 11 second time slips from these three guys. So, get out to the track and get it done.

So, that’s it. That’s all. Not much to this update. With these changes to the list, you now require a pass of 12.825 to earn a spot on the Top 10. HPR is pushed to the bump position.

Reminder: Edmonton Street Car Challenge (SCC) is at Castrol Raceway on September 1st, 2007. Support the v8less community and participate at the event whether you’re drag racing, showing, autocrossing or simply are a hot blonde in need of being photographed. Just be there!

UPDATE #6: September 3, 2007.

A few updates to the list. But before that, if you want your car on the list, be sure to submit your time slips! There are a few people who could take positions at or near the top, but you have to submit – I’ll probably track these guys down near the end of the year and attempt to get their PB time slips. So expect to see the list even harder to get onto. Should be the first year ever that you need an 11 second pass to land in the Top 10.

I took the Z to Edmonton and ran a pass of 11.254 @ 126.92 mph. While that is pretty good for the Z, the car actually had problems up there and I had to retard the timing. I think I fixed the ignition problems, and managed an 11.30x time in Calgary. (Best ever time in Calgary) So I am looking to go back to Edmonton and try to run an 11.1x time of which I think the Z is capable. This currently takes the #1 spot.

GoChris has finally done it. He gets into the 11’s running an 11.947 @ 116.91 mph. So, that’s one more 11 second car and one more 11 second Dodge SRT-4. This pass has been a long time in the making, with so many 12.0x passes it was probably starting to be painful to stop at the tower to pick up the slip in the first place. Well, congratulations on getting it done. And the new PB retains his old position of #5. (Sorry, no change on the list despite running your PB, but you’re making it harder to take the spot away, so that’s good.)

Adam_srt has added some performance enhancers to his Dodge SRT-4. This one is also capable of 11’s, just needs to get it done at the track. His current best time submitted to the Top 10 is 12.226 @ 112.27 mph. I watched that pass and it had some trouble spots. This car trapped at over 120mph on the same evening, so definitely look for 11’s in the near future from this car. Adam_srt moves up an impressive 6 positions to take the #6 spot. It also means a bunch of people are moving down a position.

Joses13 improves his PB to 12.233 @ 116.07. This was going to move him up the list, but because GoChris improved his time, and Adam_srt moved way up, in fact the improvement won’t even hold the position. Joses13 drops from #6 to #7.

That’s it. That’s all.

The nice thing is that no one is bumped from the list, despite it’s changes, and you still need to run the very same time in order to get onto the list. See you at the track.

UPDATE #7: September 17, 2007.

Just a couple of changes to announce for this update to the Alberta Top 10.

THEONE (Revolution Motorsports) has submitted the first ever 10 second time slip (with back-up pass) to the Alberta Top 10. Ron’s very fast and quick pass of 10.627 @ 141.15 mph takes the top spot on the list for 2007. Congratulations on this awesome pass and for taking the #1 position on the Alberta Top 10. Good job Ron.

NAPOWER gives us another 11 second time slip for the Alberta Top 10. Oh, he didn’t just take a little dip into the 11’s either, he jumped right in with an 11.663 @ 119.95 mph. This moves him up the list to take the #5 position. Excellent runs, congrats.

Those are the only changes to the list for this update period. Most likely the list will be open for submissions for one more full month. Next week I’ll be calling out the people who I know who have run very quick times in hopes to get the list to be as accurate as possible. You folks know who you are! So if you have eligible times that would hold a position on the list, get your slips posted.

Just thought I would post a little footnote.

The current Top 10 ET average is already QUICKER than the quickest year since 2003. (Previous quickest average ET was 11.82 in 2006)

Current average ET is 11.72.

And the list is gonna get even quicker. Crazy.

UPDATE #8: October 3rd, 2007.

My bad, I missed an entry and so if you read the previous update, my apologies – this is the revised and most current update to the list.

Sleeper’s 1992 Honda Civic ran 11.313 @ 130.79 mph at Race City. This time is good to take the #4 position on the list and all positions below that get bumped down a spot.

Lococoin improved his personal best to 11.460 @ 120.28mph. Good job.

Adam_Srt improved his personal best to 12.206 @ 116.95 mph. Congrats.

Those are the updates to the list and there is just one update left to the list, which will be happening at the end of October. Entries to the Top 10 will not be accepted after October 31st, 2007. That update will represent the finalized list. So, if you were wanting to get on to the list, you’d better get to the track soon as there likely aren’t many opportunities remaining.

As I had indicated last update, I would like the list to be as accurate as possible. So, I’m just going to put it out there to the guys who I know have run times fast enough to get onto the list but have not submitted.

Canadaslowest – 11.1x times, with plenty of back-up slips within 0.25 available I’m sure!
Tomas Neon – I believe mid to low 11’s again, not sure if there are back-up slips within 0.25, bug again, if there are submit those times.
Chinidan – 12.04x time at Race City in the skittle. Show me the slip! You don’t even have an excuse as that time doesn’t need a back-up slip like the others do.

I’m sure there may be more folks out there too. So, if you know someone who should be on the list, get them to submit the times.

That’s the update. One more and we’re done for 2007.

I missed yet another entry. Joses13 ran quicker and submitted his timeslip via PM but I forgot to update the list. His time moves him from #10 to #9 and Adam_srt gets bumped to #10.

Congrats on the 12.149 @ 120.28 mph run. The list is updated, and I sure hope I haven't missed any more! Wow. My mind must be in some other place I suppose.

October 14, 2007

Updated the list with the most recent entries.

Canadas lowest ran a pass that would hold the #1 spot on the list with an awesome time of 10.586 at Race City. I've had several complaints about allowing the Pinto to be on the list. This entry will be under review [feel free to discuss] and we will be forced to make a decision shortly.

Invalid Zero submitted a time that was eligible to take the final honorable mention spot. It was a 12.967 at Castrol.

Important Reminder!!!!

Next update will be October 31st, 2007 from entries received to that point. That will be the final update. Entries to the Top 10 list for 2007 will NOT BE ACCEPTED after October 31st, 2007.

Make sure you have your best times submitted. No changes will be made after October 31st, 2007. If your time is quick enough for the list, or you know someone who should be on the list, please get those times submitted.

I still know of two cars that ran that should be on the list. Tomas Neon – a lot of work went in to his car, and I’d really like to give credit where it is due. If you are friends with him, and can get a hold of him, I’d like to have his time slips. I have spoke with him in the past, and I know he’s not overly concerned with whether he is on the list or not. But still, it’d be nice to have that time as it would really complete the list. AND, Chindian, if Tomas submits his slip, you’d be bumped from the Top 10 anyhow. But right now your 12.04 would be #10.

Alright, I don’t see a point in making the waiting period for a decision about the Pinto any longer than necessary. So, I’ll deal with it right now. Unfortunately, and I do hate being in the position where a choice is needed to be made, and no matter what way I go in that decision, either for or against, I will upset a group of people.

The decision [my decision], and it is final, is to not allow it on to the list.

If you care about why that is the decision, you can read the drivel that ensues. If you just wanted to know what the decision was, then you can stop reading and go find yourself a nice porn link. [This one is good, check out how flexible she is when on the chair!] (http://pornawe.com/home/vid/225/HOT_BUSTS)

Some comments, for those who do not read all the various forums…I’ll just pick a couple, including my favorite. (the last one)

#1. The list is called the 2007 top 10 IMPORT/ SCC cars <--- <----
A 71 pinto is not a scc (sport compact)

#2. If you allow a pinto, then you have to allow a mustang II, and if you allow the mustang II, you have to allow the mustang and if you allow the mustang, you have to allow the capri, and if you allow the capri, you have to allow the .....

#3. If this was 1978, it would be a sport compact, well maybe not so much "sport" but still a compact.

There are of course many comments. And I won’t post any that were sent to me privately, but thanks for all the complaining just the same. J

It was a mistake to hint/nudge at getting a time slip for the Pinto before considering what exactly it is/represents. It does fit much of the criteria. I do agree very much with the #2 comment above and #3 is very true as well, and funny, and makes you wonder if there should be a restriction on the age of the vehicles that are eligible. But the thing that also comes into play is something that I have always said about what this list should be. It is not meant to keep track of purpose built cars – and the Pinto is definitely exactly that. There was no other purpose for that car other than to go quick down the drag strip, which it does very well.

I know Dario could care less about the list. The car is crazy quick, and it’s fun to watch. I’m sorry there had to be a controversy about it with respect to being on the list. In hindsight, I let my enthusiasm for the car influence my previous post about getting slips from the cars I knew went quick. But we [collectively] did decide not to allow the 2.4L Mustangs, etc, and the Pinto definitely falls into that category. So, with regrets, the car is not going to be on the list. I need to be done with this, so respectfully, I will likely not respond to comments on this issue. If you really have something to say that you want me to hear, you can do it in the thread for 2008 rule changes / eligible cars / etc. which will probably be started next year in April.

My personal apologies to Dario for suggesting he submit time slips and then subjecting him to the controversy. I am truly sorry.

I do believe this is the best decision to maintain the integrity of what the list is intended to represent.

I'm not sure what the rules well be for next year but I don't think a vehicle with a domestic trans, and rear-end should be on the list. If you put that motor if it is a overhead cam into something with a "import" drive train then great. Half the battle with imports is that you can't just order a built T400 with transbrake, and Ford 9" rear-end.
