he tried to sell me a bunch too, i asked how he had a black 4 gig ipod and he said it was a "special edition 3rd gen ipod" from Reno, USA. and he claimed it was the best ipod available because it had an fm tuner as well. i turned one on and the apple symbol came on in rainbow colors, and the software loaded onto it was complete shit, nothing even relatively similar to a real ipod

as for the 'fake' i-pod, I can assure you that you are right - it is fake. A lady I work with, her son bought one from ebay and it was the same thing, if you look at the back in the fine letters it says that it is made in something like calionia instead of california or something like that. It doesn't even have I-tunes. Not to mention that it doesn't have a proper ear phone jack and you cant connect normal earphones to it (smaller).

IMO, iPods have *always* been good deals, when compared to their contemporary counterparts.

My first HD based mp3 player was the size of a brick, held 4GB and the battery lasted 3 hours. But it was $50 cheaper than the first gen iPod...

How many Creative Jukeboxes do you see on the C-Train these days?

Sometimes it just makes sense to spend the extra $50. (Thankfully I was able to return the Jukebox!)

The answer is, they work terribly. These are all variants of the chinese "mp4" player. The interface is normally horrible. The best playlist control you have is shuffle (there are no playlists) or to play all your songs in sequential order. That looks like an ipod scroll wheel on there, but it isn't!

As far as the iPod and paying for the name..maybe if you compare them against the mainstream MP3 players you can make that argument, but against these cheap pieces of crap there is no comparison.
