i have a VW and have decided to change the transmission fluid, my problem is I need a 17 mm hex key which is hard to find. I have phoned auto value, partsource, and VW with no results. i know snap on and others make these, so anyone got any ideas where to look?

Try looking for a 17mm hex socket instead.

Got mine last week from House of Tools, on Mcleod and Heritage. Couldn't find it in the hex key bins, but it was on the same wall, to the right of them.

(oh, and you may need a snipe)

Maybe just jam a bolt with a 17mm head in it, and vice grip it out?

Snap on
any motorcycle shop that sells tools
make one out of a 17mm bolt with double nuts on the otherside.

concept 1 sells them.
Just about any VW shop will carry it for a lot less than house of tools.

That said, I bought mine at house of tools for ~$20, which seems pretty steep.

$20 is cheap.

snapon would be around $35 for a simple L shaped 17mm

$45-50 for a 1/2 socket stlye .
