Think - Calgary weather, well in that case id pick the Range Rover. How ever because i would be spending extra money and I already have the winter car, my vote goes to the Ferrari :D

This is how i split it up.

dodge viper: American, dont wanna deal with the hassle even if it does have that kind of power

lotus: Small, looks uglier everytime i see one, guys who drive it drive it to show off, even though they are cheaper exotics.

range rover: Great car, it would be my second choice, but it may kill you on gas and s.u.v's arent as nice to look at as sportier cars.

ferrari: You'll probably only drive this in the summer, and it is used so it may need some TLC (but i doubt it). Expensive car, therefore probably expensive to maintain.

My choice went to the benz because it looks great, great dependability of mercedes. Sleek car and will attract a lot of attention. Still drivable in winter, classy, probably not as bad on gas as the others (excluding the lotus).

I put the Viper on the poll because I keep seeing them everywhere (We do have alot of american muscle people in calgary).

Reason I started this poll is because I want to start importing cars.. Viper is american made and so no duty would have to be paid at the boarder.

Gotta go with the SLK 55 AMG, mostly because it's the only one I've driven out of that list and absolutely loved it.

I like the viper too: there's something to be said for the sound out of that engine, not to mention the look of the hard-top one. Very batmobile-like.

2007 Dodge Viper - Nasty cheap interior enough said.

2007 Lotus Elise or Exige - Unique automobile but not enough go for me.

2007 Mercedes-Benz SLK55 AMG - Mercedes sport cars don't do anything for me..

2007 Range Rover (Sport or HSE) - From my limited experience with Range Rover they are mobile shit heeps!

2000 Ferrari 360 Modena. - Do you know anyone who can honestly say the don't love Ferrari?

I voted for the Range Rover. Its the only one I could see realistically being driven in the winter. I personally wouldnt drive any of those cars in the winter. MAYBE the slk55.

How much does a 360 cost these days? If you are gonna spend that amount Id probably go for an RS4 or something

KenP

+3 for Porsche if possible.
If you can afford any of the above sports cars I am going to assume you have enough money to afford the Range Rover to drive in the winter.. Also gas shouldn't be a thought when you have this kind of coin.

Fair enough, I just wasn't sure because I saw one at BMW for $220,000 yesterday.

speaking of BMW would an M5/M6 fit the category as well?

I would get a Z06 or a Jag XKR/XJR over any of the cars on that list. Z06 is a great performance bargain, the XKR is a gorgeous beast, and the XJR could carry the whole family.

So, if having a family and needing a dual-purpose fun/carry car, the XJR for sure. If you're talking fun "weekend" car, XKR or Z06.

Oh I guess I didn't explain my answer:
1. I have wanted a 911 since before I can remember, and now that they went back to the round headlights, I am loving the water-cooled
2. All wheel drive, would be good for the wet days
3. Fast and luxurious, so you could handle driving it everyday (compared to something like a GT3 which I am sure could get a little rough sometimes)

As sweet as the ferrari would be, the 911 turbo would be the best IMO because

- All wheel drive (for calgary's unpredictable weather + handling bonuses)
- power everywhere for comfortable city driving
- Available in an automatic that is faster than the manual, if a comprimise must be made with the wife.
-Back seats if you ABSOLUTELY have to
- Faster than any of your other choices
- Well mannered in the city (won't wreck your aging back), but as capable if not more than the rest on the race track
- A car you can live with from day to day moreso than some of the other choices, such as the viper.

I've driven the SLK 55, it's nothing too special, very nice but not very connected or anything. Its more of a cruiser.

The viper is worth about $50,000 not $130,000 (IMO), it is built like a piece of shit IMO

The exige could be cool, but very small and not that fast or exotic.

I chose the porsche because I've always wanted a 911 turbo since before I could drive. Consistently beautiful car.

My other choice would definately be a viper, it's an amazing car domestic or not.

I like the lotus but if I had a 100g's to spend I wouldn't get it. If I was in the $80k and under market I would definately look at it seriously.

There's no "handling bonuses" with the AWD system. If there was, the GT2 wouldn't have deleted AWD (it's only a 50lb hit).

I don't like Porsche's AWD system, it makes the car boring as hell.

I'd go with the SLK, Porsche, or Ferrari.

As for the Lotus, I've seen just as many since yesterday as I have seen F-cars.

The SLK I chose because it has the convertable hard top, a nice interior, a lot of power, and it's still a small car, easy to park, and I wouldn't feel bad driving it in the winter.

The porsche 993 and 997 are my favorites, hated the 996 headlights, now that they have the round headlights back I love the looks again. You don't have to pay a rediculous amount of money for great performance.

The Ferrari is stupid expensive, huge performance, amazing looks with a price to match. If you want a car to cruise around in just during the summer months, this is the car.

If the car is for year round driving, I'd go with the AMG Benz, summer only I would go with the Ferrari if I found a good deal, otherwise it would be a toss up between the Benz and the Porsche, depending on what model the porsche is. I would take a turbo, gt2 or gt3 over the slk55, nothing else.

Well, if I'm around that age, with enough money to buy something in that price range, in this city, with the number of "yuppie" boneheads on the road thinking that they are the shit, and everyone should get the hell out of their way, I'd say SLK.

No one could guess what I voted for... it wasn't Italian!

Honestly I voted for the Viper. Cheap to buy (relative to 360 and Porsche) and the cheapest of them all to maintain. Incredible sound, incredible looks, rare, convertible... what's not to like? Plus the 8.4L engine has Mopar bolt-ons available to bring it up to 675hp:drool: . It's also decently practical. Less so than the 911, but so much cheaper I can imagine it'd be worth it.

The hot sidepipes will also be great in winter:rofl:

I vote for the exige if this is going to be your weekend car. You can only use so much horsepower in the city. Handling is what makes driving fun. Some people think it's ugly, I think it looks good. It's definitely one of a kind.

How about RS4? That thing is so sexy.

If you want to show off. Get Porsche or Mercedes, not saying that they make bad cars. I prefer something a little bit more exclusive.

Oh and if money isn't a problem, Pagani Zonda, if you can get one. Now that's one of a kind.

Lotus - Not really a fan to begin with, seen a couple around town and they just dont do anything for me.
SLK55 AMG - I just dont like the look of SLK's, and so far as i've heard (Haven't Driven any :( ) Merc's are pretty much all electronics, i'm assuming this vehicle would be for shear enjoyment, and i don't get any from having a computer drive my car, however fast it is.
Range Rover - Amazingly Capable Vehicle but again, if this is for enjoyment of driving i wouldn't really compare an SUV to any of these cars.
360 Modena - I can't really explain why i wouldn't pick the ferrari :dunno: good looks, great performance... just couldn't do it for some reason.
Porsche - Fucking amazing car, but simply put, way to many porsche's in calgary.
Viper - I picked the Viper cause i've always loved them, big ass V10, RWD, All Business, or it could be simply because im White

I'm pretty sure the Porsche turbo is faster, but I haven't read about either for a while so I could be wrong - time to pull out the told mags haha. One magazine got it to do 0-60 in 3.2 sec with the automatic. Chances are you coulnd't tell the differences between the cars with the seat of your pants, same with the ferrari.

the magazine you're looking for is car and driver september 2006. f430 vs 997tt vs c6 z06

here is the truncated article: http://www.caranddriver.com/comparisons/11326/2006-chevrolet-corvette-z06-vs-2006-ferrari-f430-vs-2007-porsche-911-turbo.html

the vette was the fastest but finished in 3rd place. i would argue that's it's an unfair comparison as the porsche is double the price and the ferrari is triple.

and it would've probably make every porsche and ferrari owner cancel their subscriptions if the chevy had won.

anyways, this thread is irrelevant for 99.99999% of beyond who are not 30 years old, have a house paid off, and also in the market for a $150k vehicle? i'm certain the target demographic for these type of vehicles are people who make over 7 figures.

more realistic cars would be cheaper ones like the z06, m3, s4, etc...

That's one of them, motor trend did a thing on it too though. The test turned out exactly as it should in my opinion. No question the vette is the best performance/$ car out there.

I also think that if the vette is trying to compete with cars worth twice as much, it is then very appropriate to test it among those other vehicles.

Would really depend on the circumstances. There are very few I would buy on the list as a daily driver. But if it were a 3rd vehicle in the household only to be driven in nice weather, a different story. Also, if I wanted a track toy at a reasonable price, then the Lotus Elise. Still depends on your priorities and what you intend to use the vehicle for. Care to elaborate further?

IMO, I would take the Viper and Rover off the list.

bhaha, so easy, its the 997 Turbo. It schools every other car, and can be used as a daily driver. :D It even has AWD with RWD bias for awesome winter driving. :D It just needs a chip go get rid of the 10 sec limit on the overboost.

I laugh at the refined enthusiasts who laugh at the Viper behind the wheel of their 10 year old AIDSmobile.

I picked Viper. Good power, good tuneability, good handling, GREAT street presence.

Modena - Nice car, exotic. However much too slow for the price and maintenance costs will eat you alive.

Porsche Turbo - Great car (one of my bosses has one), handles great, good power and tuneability. Probably my second choice. On the negative side I see many Porsches each day and the average person can't tell a Cayman from a Carrera from a Turbo.

Lotus - Way too slow, small and I would have little chance to take advantage of it's strengths (how many legit track days around here?).

Range / AMG SLK55 - Nice cars, but these are more appropriate for daily drivers. I assume when I am Viper shopping I'll already
have a daily driver. These vehicles are also common as hell in Calgary.

P.S. I do not think there is a 2007 Viper. I believe they left the 2006 model and will start again with the 2008 600 HP Viper.

997 Turbo for sure .. if Money is not issue ..

It is the fastest by far .. and the most reliable one for sure .. and awesome for daily driving ..

However, 997 Turbo is the most expensive one in the group .. ( ~ $200K with tax and levy )

Vs used 2000 360 will be app. $150k-170k .. so price is close to 997 Turbo ..

$90-110K on RR HSE / RR sport

$110-120K on the Viper .. (huge incentive from Chy)

$90K for SLK55

$70K for Elise

So .. hard to compare ..

Nothing seems to be loud enough once you experience a Ferrari!! For the sound, there is no contest. However, as a daily, in this price range I'd go with a Vantage.
