So I am torn between a few cars right now- G35 specifically.

What do you think is the best value?

Buying for mileage?
Buying for the options on a car?
Buying for color?
Buying for year?
Buying stock/modded?
Buying on condition/owner history?

I'm just curious as to what I would get the most out of in terms of resale.

For example, I can buy an 03 fully loaded for say $20k with 51k miles or an 04 fully loaded for $3k more with 32k miles.

Or this for $24k http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=220111231953&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=012

versus this for $24k

(please give your honest opinion on all cars too)

Thanks everyone

I most certainly wouldn't buy a car sight unseen - there are so many scammers selling parts these days that I wouldn't begin to trust a car w/o seeing it firsthand.

Buy Silver. Stock. Low mileage.

Get the newest one you can afford. After the first 2 years, most of the depreciation has happened already.

For G35, I would buy one that's around 2 years old. It will atleast give you a bit of room for warranty.

Stock/modded - it depends on how modded the G is. If they were done right, then go for it.

Color - I appreciate Gs by it's color. If it's somethign you would keep for a few years then it should be something you like.

If I'm buying a G, I would look for condition like factory paint or if you have to paint some parts, engine condition which you can get from the dealership (ask for records, owner may have it then just verify it).

If you're planning to import it, at least have a friend look at it .. pay a pro to go over the car...

Best to buy the newest one you can afford with the lowest possible km's..as long as it still has the options you want, and the more the better. This should go for any used car purchase I believe.

If I were to buy a G35 again, I most definitely go with White or Black. I'd wait for those colors if I have to. Good stuff!

Wow that's a pretty good price for an 04 Coupe and through a dealership as well. The IP is a nice color, the one thing I didn't like is that the graphite interior wasn't offered with the Ivory Pearl in the 1st Gen. I have the tan interior in mine and although it gives a feeling of space it's not as nice on the eyes as the graphite.

Yeah I agree but I could not pass up the condition of the car and the price. I got it for $25350 including a full 3M application on hood and bumper. I have seen the white/black though in the M6- is that not the same as the autos?

According to my spreadsheet, it will be about $33000 CDN to get it too my door ready to drive...probably about $3k cheaper than locally. It also has 4 brand new tires.

i think he's had knee problems if I remember correctly from another thread and wanted something easier to drive. Correct me if I'm wrong. But nothing wrong with an automatic depending on the car. Car like this at least automatic will have been done right.

^ A Couple reasons- my left knee is a little rought right now and I dont want to deal with the maintenance on a manual. $3k for a clutch job and nearly the same to do the Brembo brakes- no thanks.

I want to purchase this one for a few year to get me by until I can afford the one I want- that will be an 05/06 blue 6MT with Aero/Navi....too bad they are WAY out of my price range for the time being.

I'm a bit of a geek so I had a spreadsheet that detailed everything from gas/airfare/lodgin ,etc. to duty, etc.

Check the big thread at the beginning of this section for more details but here is an approx. of the costs:

1) Duty- 6.1%
2) GST- 6%
3) Exchange- 10%
4) Inspection Fees- $150 for OOP and $20 for federal
5) Fees at Border- ~$300

If you want to ball park it, add between 25-30% on the sale price to get it o your door.
