SOLD!! to a super nice guy!

VERY RARE! The Sony U1 was never officially sold outside Japan. This is one of the smallest computers ever made with full feature Windows XP (not the crippled tablet edition), 1024x768 high resolution screen and keyboard. Only 18.5 cm X 14 cm (5.5" X 7") and weights only 0.82 kg.

(Scroll down for pictures)

I had this shipped to me straight from Japan and paid a ton of money on it plus shipping, customs and taxes. I'm only asking $650 (pretty firm) for this rare laptop (At the time of the thread, there is only one U1 on ebay for more than $900). I'd put it on ebay, but those Nigerian scams suck.

Willing to ship within Canada/US and accept Paypal at buyer's expense.

The notebook is working perfectly. Physically good as well, just some letters fading on the keyboard.

Includes everything that came in the original box. AC adaptor, battery (still holds good charge), recovery CDs, user manuals, warranty card (not filled, but think it's out of warranty already), accessories catalog, misc. user guides. And although not in the pictures, I'll include all the original packing materials as well!

For the complete JDM experience, it currently has the original copy of Japanese Windows XP Home and all the original applications installed. I've installed English XP Pro on it previously and it ran perfectly fine. If, for some strange reason, you don't like the Japanese Windows, let me know and I can work something out for you.

If you look in this picture, there are CD slips and cases to the right of the computer. That gives a good estimate of how small this little guy is.

Sorry, but I don't have a pop can available, so I took a picture of it with a CD case. Hope that helps.

Most, if not all, of the original software is in Japanese. I've installed English XP on it before and it worked perfectly.

so this has no CD rom / DVD rom drive correct?

It's a bit too small to fit a DVD/CD drive in it. An external one is needed if you want to read or write DVD/CD.

I believe it's 2003?

USB 1, which I find to be ok in most cases.

I'm using a sony i-link dvd drive. sony pcmcia drives can boot as well. not sure about others.

Sorry, not selling my dvd drive at the moment.

You may be able to get an iLink dvd drive on ebay for less than $100 shipped. Watch for PCGA-DVD1. and I think it's PCGA-DVD51 for the pcmcia version.

KKY

It has built-in wire connection.

For wireless, I'm using a usb adapter on it and works well. PCMCIA adapter would also work.

i have a few requests..are u able to format the drive and install an english version of xp on it? also does it have wireless or an ethernet spot to be able to hook up to the internet? and can yoy take a picture of just the keyboard... its hard to tell from those pictures but it looks like some of the letters aren't wirrten in and cant tell if its a standard key keyboard.

For whoever buys the laptop, I can install English XP for testing. It's got built-in ethernet, wireless can be achieved through USB or PCMCIA wireless adapter.

As described above, there are some faded keys. The keyboard is basically the same as a normal keyboard with extra japanese characters on the keys.
