The question one might ask is Why?

Ask this guy why:

If you've ever driven one, you'll know why. It's a shitload of fun haha.

The stock Miata is very slow by sports car standards; the V8 is just what that car needs IMO.

Haha because the company that made it though 130 HP was good enough for what it weighed...

For those with experience, is the car nose heavy like hell?

It was for the people who wanted to buy it. Not everyone wants to dish out $50,000 for a Honda :P

but the car will plow through corners like a barge now. I can understand ptting a V8 into a small car...this one isn't it.

On the Spike TV channel they did this swap on one of their motor series shows with a 400hp ford engine. I didn't see it all, but the idea was to create something like a Shelby Cobra car for cheap.

Here are some F&Q: http://www.monstermiata.com/Monster_Miata_Faq.asp

Q: What is the weight distribution after the conversion?
A: With a half tank of gas, 53/47.

It's nose heavier and noticable.

Believe me, plowing is the least of your worries in this car. Yes it's nose heavier, but not as drastic as you'd think. New springs are part of the kit to compensate for the different F/R distribution, and you'd never plow in this car, more like, you'll oversteer EVERYWHERE and it wants to rotate around the engine. It takes a bit to get used to... kinda like first time driving a MR car, but backwards? Hard to explain. You pretty much steer with your ass everywhere.

Once you get used to it, it's fast as hell, and cornering is a full time job managing steering and throttle at the limit. Definately a different driving style.

I saw a video of a ls1 miata, man that thing moved...

If i WAS going to do this, it'd have to be in one of the newer bodies. I'm not a fan of the older ones.

Reason why this is so easy to do is because mazda actually made the engine bay big enough for a v6 that they WERE going to put it, but i guess never got around to it lol.

That's what I meant, 130 HP was enough to make this car excel in it's class, so putting a V8 in there is just overkill!
Don't get me wrong, I was not insulting the Miata, I love that car!

At 130hp, the Miata was a toy car, suitable for someone learning handling dynamics of a RWD car. For someone that knows how to drive RWD cars, the miata is fucking boring as hell. It's like everything's in slow motion, zZzZ fest.

With a V8 swap, it turned the miata into a REAL car that can be really driven. You won't fall asleep driving one. For the hardcore, the supercharger makes it scary. You won't sleep for days after driving one hard lol.

Unlike you, however, some of us (me) are complete NOOBS at racing and would be entertained by a trikey with a 3 HP lawn mower engine attached to it ;)
hahaha

Take a course at the track, then spend a few track days pushing towards the limit. I'll bet if you do a track day a month, you'll get bored of your S2000 even and want more. Drive a miata then and see how boring it is haha.

Or go do a course and 1 track day in a Miata, you'll find it boring after that. Doesnt' take much.

I'm a noob when it comes to driving at the track too. I mean your amateur cascar racing driver would run circles around me. But seriously, it's a miata... haha.

You know...funny thing, for the LONGEST time I thought Miatas were FWD, so I hated them so much cause I was like wtf is the point of that, but only recently I found out they were RWD...and they're not bad looking so for the money you pay and the amount you save over other similar roadsters wouldn't you be able to put that money into make the car a beast?
I guess the better the platform you start out on the more potential eh?
Also, for track use, besides tires, and suspension, what mod would you guys recommend? I am upgrading to the newer AP2 rims which are wider and bigger, and some nice tires (which I will look into), but what's next?

EDIT: I guess that's the disease called car modding:
You get better, your car stays the same...

Start a new thread (is it for your S2K?) and I'll answer your question.

It honestly would be a really fun project car... but like i said, you would either the newer model, or re-do the entire front end of the miata to make it look decent... haha

the real question is why not

I would much rather put a rotary into a miata if I were to swap the motor. Much lighter then a V8, and plenty powerful.

The point of the mustang V8 is cheap reliable power, something that can't be said about the rotary.

the rotary swap is supposidly a MUCH more difficult swap as well

Whoa... sweeeeeet. I was kinda wondering if this was possibly today. I've driven a boosted miata before and it was a pretty fun car to drive, now a v8 in one... That would be a blast.

I doubt that would be a problem as long as you press the gas:

Nice spot on the V8 miata, seems kind of pointless but must be damn fun.

I was polishing my car in my underground parking last night and a guy in a 5.4L miata conversion stopped to ask what I was doing. We ended up talking about his car the whole time, said he shipped it to vancouver without the motor and had the conversion done there. I can see why you'd do it - 365hp and 400ft/lbs in a 2500 pound car.
Can you say fun?

It was red, so there are at least two here.
