I was playing with my Rubik's Cube at a friend's house over the weekend and they seemed to be pretty fascinated by it so I figured I'd record it and put it on Google Video if anyone else wants to see it. Here you go! The beeping halfway through is an email coming in on my Blackberry.

I believe they just had a Rubik's cube competition in Toronto last week or on the weekend and the winner was able to complete it in 6 seconds.

It's just a set of patterns, that when done over and over enough times, will get you the right combo.
He probably just did the pattern until someone said holy shit or something and then he stopped, figuring that he had finished it.

I taught one of my friends how to do it in 2 days last week, now she's teaching someone else! Still takes her about 5-10 minutes though, but at least she learned it! The trick is not to do it by colour but by layer. You do the top layer, then the middle, then the bottom.

Reminds me of the movie, The Pursuit of Happyness.

I can't solve a rubik's cube in under 10 second. I could probably beat someone to death with one in under 10 seconds though. That would make for a more entertaining contest

Where can you get those? I'd like to get one for my son.

I think the Dollar Store might have them. But if you want an authentic Rubik's Cube, the only place I've seen them is at The Discovery Hut in Chinook Mall and they're about $20 each.

I think I'd like a genuine Rubik's. I remember in the days you could really tell the difference between a knockoff and the real thing. From what I recall, the real ones were much smoother operating and solidly built. The knockoffs came apart really easy.

Anyone watch season 2 of Beauty and the Geek? One of the geeks on there held (not sure if he still holds it) the fastest time in solving a rubiks cube.
