I've just applied to be a Flash Designer at their site, but I was hoping somebody here could refer me to a person there to increase my chances because I really want to work at this company.

Is this the same critical mass we have in Winnipeg that block traffic on sundays to protest pollution and cruising and cause motorist to idle for hours causing tons more pollution?

Please say it's not. these guys are really whacked out and go about their protests all wrong. The message is fine but the actions they take are not. They also never have arguments to their points they just spit back the same mumbo brainwashed jumbo over and over again.

they also can't follow basic traffic laws especially re. bikes

And thank-god I'd change my company name

"global" haha...ok, sure but not exactly a company that a flash designer would be dying to work at :D

The real Critical mass has offices all over the world but started in Calgary..pretty cool considering Calgary is more oil than tech :)

I can e-mail you my resume if you want. Demo? Right here (http://www.zerom3.com). I haven't put up the actual portfolio yet, but I do have references who could confirm my skills.

Took too long to load. After 10 seconds, closed the window and moved on.

You must have a really slow connection, then. The file's 1MB.

Nope.. internet connection is just fine. Speakeasy states 7677/831. Just slow to load. Using my Dell laptop, with firefox. It just took too long at first..

I did open up the site and let go in another window however, and it's pretty. I also like the pics of pincher creek and that creek, looks like Kanaskis to me. The site is pretty, the photo's are nice.

I don't like how the site resets the volume to full on every link. Also, as a typical surfer.. I think there should be something on the front page while it's loading to keep me interested, or at least give me a clue as to what this site is about.

Yeah, I've been trying to fix that blasted volume control. :(

Have you done post-secondary?

Xaroxantu Zero
05-24-2007, 11:17 PM
I just graduated from my diploma at SAIT, but I'll be attending Mount Royal in September to take a degree in Electronic Publishing.

So why would you apply to a company when you are not finished post secondary? I am just saying that if you value this company, wouldn't you want to 'prove your worth' in the long run?

Xaroxantu Zero

I want to gain more experience at the same time, simply speaking. Besides, this degree will be more or less just a proof that I have the skills I already obtained years ago, except more refined and acknowledged by a post-secondary institution. I find establishing myself in the industry after the degree is less efficient in developing my career.

It'd be nice for them to having something to look at -- anyone can throw up software on their resume and claim to do this and that. Not that I am saying you don't have any skills or anything though. They hire a lot of graduates around this time (would've been better to apply a month or two ago) and the graduates get first priority as I have been told.

No offense, but I don't know why anyone would refer a complete stranger to their employer or friend at the company.

Referrals should be people that you actually know, not random people from the Internet.

If you have a strong portfolio you should be fine.

I agree.

But then again, I have no big title under my belt, but as far as being a web dev there, I sometimes get random resumes from people I've only met once, and all I do is just hand it off to HR and let them handle it.

PS, what program did you graduated from?

I worked for C. Mass back in 02, 03...my sister was good friends with one of the HR recruiters at the time. This was when they were on 11th Ave across from MEC. It was a good exp. but then they soon expanded and my contract expired and we went our seperate ways. The highest mgr at the time - Jason I think ......was a complete knob. I think they are overrated, I wouldnt go back.

The Administrative Information Management diploma. It's more of a stepping stone to get into Electronic Publishing more than anything though.

whats so special about that site? i mean i kno uve done some pretty cool photography stuff before and shown it on that site.

my flash skills are absolute crap and i probably dont kno half of what u kno about flash, but ive done some minor things and created a flash site for a club at uni, and considering i did it in a day or two, i dont think that your fades using whatever layers as masks could be considered demo work for a site that is supposed to be professional (atleast thats what i assume they're looking for)....

good luck with the job search anyways.

I do have the old version of my site online:
http://www.zerom3.com/index2.htm

Besides, aren't they supposed to be looking for creative individuals?

I suggest applying on there site, its gonna be hard getting a job when mostly everything on your site says coming soon. You have to compete with graduates which have some pretty top notch websites coming out of their programs.

even with my oc it's 10 k/s . you're the slow one .

also, 1 meg of flash is a bit excessive . why don't you make your website a executable for ppl to install? lol

Agreed 100%, I really dont see what is so good about the site apart from the nice pictures. I am assuming Critical Mass will have tons of new applicants, ones with more qualifications than you...this means that if you want to get hired NOW, then you need to show Critical Mass that you are indeed better than all other applicants. If that website is all you have, then "may the force be with you"

There's a difference between being creative and creatively skilled IMHO. If there's nothing to show a company what you're worth then the company will think you're worthless.

I'd love to work at critical mass, I've been in their building before.. they let you write on the elevator walls! They also donate stampede parking money to charity.
