Looking for some advise for wakeboard equipment for a beginner rider..

Recommended Brands? Models? Sizes?

I am 5'11, and about 140lbs..

I would hit up a local shop if I had the time to get down to one... so just looking for some basic recommendations before heading to a shop..

Cheers.

liquid force and hyperlite are really good brands to get into, i would say get an intermediate board, so that u can progress easily, if u just got a beginner board u would need a new one soon, and an intermediate board will be easy to learn and and easy to progress on

also check out hyperactive for the best wakeboard stuff intown, i would say a 138 would be a good size for you

yeah hyperactive is the shop in calgary

and i would agree with the size, thats what i ride and im 6'1"

another great brand is cwb, and what ever you get i would recommend getting something with a blended three stage and continuous rocker, and bindings are the most important part get something with a thick foot pad and that are not too tight but not loose either

im really feelling the liquid force bindings they look like snowboard boots!

http://www.liquidforce.com/images/bindings/mens/boot_watson-f.jpg

this is the deck im riding (liquid force balance 2005 model) and i like the 3 fins on each end and it is a smooth ride

http://www.liquidforce.com/archive/2005/images/boards_balance_midleft3.jpg

but with all that being said, fuck wakeboarding just wakeskate, it is way more fun and so much cheaper to do, you can pick a deck up for about 150 bucks and then all you need is a rope and your shoes and then anything can tow you even tin boat (well you will need something with atleast a 25hp on it, for me even more tho since im north of 200lb)

well 3 stage is what it sounds like middle is flat and the ends are at a different angle (think like a skateboard) it is good for big pop, and continuous rocker is a gradual bend and is good for speed so a blended board is a mix of both so you get both speed and pop

oh yeah and if you are buying a deck and are travelling to the states buy it down there!! it is about half the price

Yea won't be going to the states.. Kelowna next month..

So a decent intermediate setup should run me about $800??

ya u should be able to get board and bindings for under 800, stores should even have boards from the previous season that u can pick up for cheaper and save some money, lots of the time all that changes is the graphics anyways, u could get a board from 3 or 4 years ago that is still an amazing board by todays standards!

my advice is to demo some boards and then purchase off the internet or buy from the US...Calgary shops are HORRIBLY overpriced for wakeboards

yeah canada prices suck, you would be looking at about 800-1000 for the deck and 500-600 for bindings and 100-300 for a vest, and 100-300 for a rope, and 50k-150k for a boat

thats why it pays to know people that can get you shit at cost :bigpimp:

I might sell my obrien player soon, since I left Kelowna I don't really get out much anymore.

Shit, I've only ridden it maybe 5 times since I bought it.
It's 9.5/10

Top of the line xenon bindings with it, pm me for more info

i have a related question, and instead of making a new thread il post here.
im looking into buying a boat.
nothing special, something old.
would a 115 hp motor be abel to pull you on a wakeboard?
would i need bigger?

asp integra

ya 115 could get u up, but the boat is probably gonna be small and light, therefore its gonna have a terrible wake, and u wont be able to get any better at jumping, i suggest looking into used inborad boats, like early 90s malibus or mastercrafts or anything else, they will all have v8s and lots of power, plus all u do is throw a wakeboard pole or tower on and your set!

ercchry

hell no!!! 115 will not do it unless you are under 120 pounds, not a hope, we use to have a 175 and it was shit for me when i was 180, when i pulled to cut i would slow it down

+1 for the inboard, even a stearn drive (inboard/out board) would be better

right now i ride behind a air nautique and a glasstron, the nautique has a tower and weight and the glasstron has a pole and weight, and i cant really wakeboard behind the glasstron because i slow it down too much but is great to wakeskate behind, nice wake with the weight in it and about 8 people in it, but hella slow to get up behind

but if you get an outboard get a four stroke and a pole and some weight in it and atleast a 150hp

but i dont want some pussy fishing boat.
i have found a few boats im intrested in buying and putting a bit of work into.
im 160pounds.
http://image4.usedcalgary.com/YYC3219202.1.jpg
this boat has the 140 johnson 2 stroke outboard
http://image4.usedcalgary.com/YYC3114121.1.jpg
this beast has the 115 johnson not sure if its 2 stroke or 4.
thinks they would cut it?

are those even sea worthy anymore? i would say save up some more cash and get a better boat

and as for dj lazys question, check out the wakeboard specials page on the hyper active site, some pretty good deals on there
http://hyperactivewatersports.com/content.php?ID=98

this is a solid intermediate board:

http://www.boat.canadatrader.com/result/detailinfo.aspx?ID=27557145&pgno=1&srt=1

even something like this can do a decent job (freind had one, we skied and boarded behind it, not that great but got us up and the wake was ok once we got alot of peps in the boat

the second one need some interior work.
was on the water summer before last.
the other one is fine aswell no leaks and solid.
i will be painting the boat etc. getting it into good shape.
im only 20 i cant afford a nicer boat.
i would love to spend 20+k on a boat but its very not realistic.
ps. that first boat is sexy!

yeah it is, and is also a 80k+ boat

and yeah stick to wakeskating, so much cheaper and so much fun, you can do it behind any boat even a seadoo, and yeah wakeboarding is a rich mans sport, so much cash needed to do it right :nut:

really for any boat you will need atlest 10k plus weight and a big stick to have fun after the first 2 days out

then add this

http://www.ozonewatersports.com/pages/page7.html

and this

http://www.gotriver.com/lp_8103.htm
