View Full Version : Deerfoot Southbound Closed

For anyone reading that is about to head home south on Deerfoot, take a different route or stay at work for a bit longer :)

Due to a gasoline tanker truck that has major leak,
Southbound Deerfoot Trail will be closed at 17 Ave SE and
traffic will be diverted east and west at that point. The
tanker ran over a large piece of wood on Deerfoot which
resulted in a puncture in the tank.

This closure will be in effect until the clean-up is
complete. It is anticipated this will be cleaned up at
approximately 6 PM.

My thoughts exactly. I just wished the piece of wood damaged a vehicle that belonged to someone on city council.

Hahaha there's always shit all over the place on deerfoot.

In my time I've seen a sofa, mattress and bale of hay laying in the middle of deerfoot.

My old high school teacher ran over a truck axel that fell off a truck on the way to the scrap yard in her 2 week old BMW.

Took me 110 minutes to get home from McKnight.

Left McKnight area at 3:00PM. Got hom at 4:50PM. It is usually an 18 minute trip. (25 minutes on a bad day at that time)

Un-fawk-in-believable.

Been in Calgary for 20+ years and that's the worst clusterfuck I've ever seen for those trying to get to the SE from the NE.

A piece of WOOD punctured a gas tanker? I would have thought they'd build them better than that.

Same here, left McKnight at 3:30, home by 5:10. Late for my appointment. Yesterday was 70min. That compounded with some brilliant idea to do "Lets park the Train" on sheppard road for all the people that went barlow/ogden road as an alternate after sweating their ass off for an hour and 20 minutes to get 6km

FUCK CALGARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cant wait to get the fuck out of this overswelling overrated overpopulated peice of fuck town!

With the closure on Centre st between 12th and 16th its a mess in my area. It takes me an hour to get 3 blocks on 12th at 5:00.

Alot of time I just drive around the mess and take my car up over a curb on some guys lawn, its bullshit.

They block off every single entrance to the area, and then they close centre st as to not allow any other way into my area.

I blame the oil companies.. !

It's clearly another ploy to raise gas prices, by dumping it all over deer foot.. fuckin pertro can ran out of reg today and wouldn't sell premium lower... what a scam... :guns:

I heard the news on the radio at around quarter to four and I knew I was fucked. I took 16th out to Chestermere and came in on Glenmore but a truck broke down near the Dairy Queen that really held things up.

1 hour and 40 minutes from 32nd to Anderson.

Yeah I remember seeing this too, but I was heading north when I saw it,but it was still a traffic jam, but it was backup everywhere, even on edmonton trail.
I also heard that a truck got stuck under the over pass at memorial.

You could smell Diesel from 16th Ave. And from 16th Ave to 17th Ave it was a good solid hour of incubating in the heat, enjoying the stink of Diesel and overheating vehicles, and depressing my heavy AWD clutch about 1000 times.

I'll probably go homicidal if there's another clusterfuck going home tomorrow...and it's Friday...there's been an accident on southbound deerfoot, 19 of the past 24 weeks excluding when I was out of the country. (yes, I actually took the time to chart it in my Outlook calender out of pure morbid curiosity.)

Another interesting tidbit, 7 of the past 10 involved Large Trucks and Tractor Trailors.

Oh great, now all the gas stations in the South are going to raise their prices by $0.20/litre cause of the shortage in supply from this spill.

If I was there, I probably would had gotten out the bountie, help with the clean up, and rinse all the gas outta the towels once I get home.

It was great. Left work at 5:00. Took a detour that too me back to where I started at 5:30 and started on another route.
