I called Shaw today to get internet set up, and the rep goes on to tell me that they're showing no service for our unit, at all. Thing is we get cable and they're charging us for it in our rent. Called twice to verify. What is the proper way to approach this situation?

Tell your landlord you want to get internet setup and work out some sort of deal....

I am pretty sure they use to offer cash rewards in the $1000's for reporting those sorts of things. I'd call it in but not offer your personal details. You are NOT helping by letting it go.

Well I can't have Shaw come install high speed, so either they knock it off the rent and I pay it, or when the guy comes in to install it they'll figure it out and the landlord has to deal with it.

From where I'm standing, rat him out. You're the one paying for it every month but his actions are impeding you from getting an internet connection. It seems pretty clear that you have a right to it. Your landlord is a crook for pocketing the cash like that.

But then there are relationship issues at stake here that you're aware of. I would feign ignorance and just get the cable guy to hook you up and let the landcrook deal with it. As for as you know, you pay for cable TV every month, right?

Wow that's really awesome. Are you sure he isn't PAYING for cable for the whole building and has made it available to your unit? You might be sharing the bill with other units. I doubt he's stealing it.. they catch that pretty quick these days.

how much you paying for cable?
if full price.. why not just tell your landlord you don't want it anymore.. or pull the cable out.. then get shaw to install cable + internet where you live at.. and just pay cable through shaw instead of your landlord..

^^ He can't do that because the landlord probably has a certain account with Shaw.
Basically meaning the entire building he lives in gets either classic cable or basic cable and they pay for it in their monthly rent.

It's weird to me that one of the reps couldn't see any service for your apartment.
Oh and by the way, I work for Shaw. :D

I figured that haha. It's a condo building, are you guys able to check if a whole building shares service?

Be honest and do the right thing, its always the best thing to do and will have rewards, but sometimes they may not be instant.

Snitches get stiches! :D

edit - It's a fucking joke! Honesty is the best policy, blah blah blah. If they're stealing it and charging you, stop paying the crooked bastards.

Oh definately!
We just have to check the account type and see wether or not the landlord is in that account type.
Otherwise we will send out our auditing team.

stop payin the landlord for the cable that shaw doesn't show exists in that location.

enjoy cable for free.

or talk to your landlord and see what he does. juss to see him squirm. or its probably the shaw reps you spoke too.
