Depends on how long you are away from Canada.

If you are away for:
24hours you are allowed $50 CAD
48hours you are allowed $200 CAD
7days you are allowed $750

Anything over those amounts will be taxed.

You can see the Declaration form here
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/E/pbg/cf/e311/README.html

Which I got from here (first link):

When the new Federal Budget was announced, they raised the limit for the 48 hour period from $200 to $400.

Yes that’s rite.

When I went down for a weekend and brought back a car, they actually gave me a $400 credit towards my taxes because I didn’t buy anything other than the car...

With the exchange rate the way it is, duty free is the motherfuckin tits!

I bought a 1L bottle of 18 year old Glennfiddich single malt scotch for $50USD  The same thing in Calgary would cost $120!

So it's $400 now, is this per person? If 2 people are in the vehicle, would it be $800?

ahh there is nothing as good as cross the boarder shopping..

I freaking love duty free! I get all my perfume there. Great deals on jewelry but you have to know your stuff. Duty Free in Detroit is the best!

The best duty free I've seen was in St. Maarten. Oh my god...booze was cheaper than bottled water hahah.
