Sounds similar to what happened to my gf. although she was not quoted that much.

She went in to buy a fog light for the slk, asked how long it would take to get installed and was told it would take an hour. One hour labor = $110 or whatever shop rate.

She said, no thanks and took it to TireCraft, it took them less than 5 mins to put in! :rofl:

Similar thing happened to me more than once.
I bought a short screw-on antenna when I was in for an oil change and I told them that I can put it on myself. They insisted that they will do it. When the bill came, I saw 20 bucks labour for the installation of the antenna. I confronted him. He told me that they don't work for free. I didn't quit and finally he dropped that 20 bucks. Unless the tech is a retard, it shouldn't take him more than 30sec to unscrew an antenna and put a new one on.
The other time they tried to charge me 200 bucks to install a shock sensor worth 50 bucks. I installed it myself for free.
They screwed me last time by charging me 10 bucks of oil when I supplied them with my oil but I was too busy to check the bill and didn't notice until I got home.

They are not called stealership for no reason.

Something similar has happened to me at Honda West near Richmond square. I went in to get a special promotional offer they had at the time where they do an inspection and check things like your wipers, lights, brakes, fluids, wheels, tire pressure and things like that as well as a oil change.

anyways, i knew one windshield wiper was broken, i knew that i had one burnt out headlight and that all my tires were deflated (not at 32 psi, they were at roughly 23-25).

so i left it with them to see what they'd do, sure enough i got the car back with everything checked off and was told that everything was all good. I asked them to bring the service guy over and i pointed out to him infront of the service rep that the windshield wiper was broken, i had a burnt out headlight, i then pulled out my tire guage and showed them that the tires were all under-inflated.

they said
"Well your supposed to tell us if things go wrong, how are we supposed to know about these things, its like going to the doctor and asking him to find whats wrong with you"
(even though the things that were "broken"were the exact components they were supposed to check)

anyways, they didn't do anything about it but told me that i if i wanted to fix anything they would charge me insane amounts of money, ill never go back, and they didnt even bother to put my oil cap back on so when i got home and checked under the hood there was oil all over the hood and engine.

too bad that 110$ /hour dosnt all go to the mechanics alone like the guy in the video says...its all split and used to pay off all staff, managers, advisors, even wash guys and things like supplies and electricity...mechanics would be getting about $25-35 an hour usually

good video but shit like that happens everywere and some techs are just usually lazy most of the times. they most likely would have found the rock when they took the sunroof off and would have not charged the customer the $6500 when they figured out the actual problem (unless the tech would have kept it quiet and not told anyone about the rock which can happen too)...also most of the times the advisors dont know all the details, the info they get is all 2nd hand and /or just read off the invoice. dealership service is not THAT bad ;)
