i'm planning on getting a motorcycle in the summer. just wondering if anyone could suggest a good bike to start with i like the suzuki gsxr 600 and the honda cbr 600
but i think that might be a bit much for a first bike.

600CC is a good size to start with depending on your size. If you think you can handle the weight then yea, if not go for a smaller engine. I personally started with 748 and that's my current bike as well, and I don't really find it too heavy at all.

600 is deffinantly better than any bike, but 600 is still ALOT of bike. You will never be able to push a 600 to its limits. The Suzuki GS500F is a great bike to learn on. It still looks like a sport bike, but just doesn't have the insane power of a sport bike.

Kawi 500ex, 250ex
Suzuki 500F
mid 90's cbr600's and Yamaha YFZ600's
Kantana 600
there is also the new CBR125r coming out this year.

I'd go for an old bike for sure, less heartache when you drop it.

I have a 96 CBR600F3 for my first bike. Its got power when you need it, but also it quite tame @ low revs.

Dude don't listen to any of these people. Buy what you want and take it slow til you learn some skills. Any bike will kill you. Buy something thats nice and won't bore you after a year. Trust me. I went this route and don't feel bad about it at all. Bikes are easy to ride you just have to RESPECT them deeply.

Go with that Honda 'GO' program, although a 125 four stroke is a VERY weak engine, as I think it just puts out a mind-boggling 15 hp, which makes it useless for anything other then residential street driving.
I'd say go with a Kawasaki EX500 or a Kawi' ZZR600.

Then get a pink helmet and pink jacket to match.

Take a motorcycle training/safety course so you don't end up a grease spot on the road ;)

The fact that you guys would even post this drivel means you have no fucking idea what you are talking about.. The people that say you need a Hayabusa for your first bikes are the biggest idiots I ever deal with in the shop.

However if that is sarcasm, then

If you have to get new I'd suggest with a SV650 if you are somewhat inclined, if not and you are a total squid I'd go with a Suzuki GS500.

I think it makes more sense to buy mid 80s to early 90's bike first. Even one of those old weak little yamahas tourers / cruisers to get the basics down. I started with an '86 GSXR 750 I still have it and ride it to this day and even then I was told was I was crazy.
