Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM

Hey all I was think of getting this lens, what do you guys think? Ups and downs.

Depends on what you're using it for.

Stopped down to f/8 and smaller, centre sharpness is about the same as the kit lens (the kit lens isn't that bad despite what some people say) but edge sharpness is better. It's decent wide open, but the f/4 is slow so it's not a great low light performer. AF speed is pretty horrible. It produces good colour and saturation though.

Unfortunately anything faster by Canon costs 50%-100% more. Have you looked into the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8?
