I realize one is LHD, one RHD. One is v8 and the other v6 turbo.
The Soarer usually have lower mileage on them when the come over but the SC400 run forever. Parts and service can be more tricky with the import? Performance wise is the extra 30 hp much difference? How much more torque?

What other factors would one look at when considering between these two?

Also there are no 5speed V8s with the SC400. If you dont mind RHD, Soarer is the better deal imo

One thing to consider is that there's less parts that carry over between the 2 than you would think, ie windshield, brakes and some interior pieces are different just to mention a few

on paper it's only a 30 hp difference. Don't beleive it.

Engine parts for the SC400 will be more easier to get rather than the Soarer with the 1JZ-GTE engine. Keep that in mind as well!

I saw a soarer at Change Auto, that thing was sweet ass.

The 1UZ is a nice engine.

The 1JZ is a nice engine too.

I would go for the soarer personally.

Soarer. No question. I bought an SC400 because the only Soarer I could find in toronto was a POS (manual and LSD though...). I am very happy with my car, however, I still want a 1JZ. The SC400 can be quick, but certainly not fast. Anyone in BC or Alberta is lucky to have so many Soarers around. If you have the chance, buy one.

Soarer's come with various engines, including the 4.0L V8 in the SC400, as well as the 3.0L 2JZ-GE like the SC300's, they just also had the option of the 2.5L 1JZ.

Just thought I'd make that distinction, since some people assume all Soarers have the 1JZ.

3.0L, 2.5L, and 4.0L Soarers were all introduced at the same time if I'm not mistaken. (Z30 series)

the lexus is a great car, i still miss mine

i would go with a sc300 (standard available) and just turbo it since it already has the 2jz :D ....or just get the whole engine and 6spd tranny out of a mk4 supra (biiiig money) and do that

lexus

get a sc300 with standard tranny, drop the 1jz in it for like 3000 and ur golden... dont go for the soarers seriously, i have friends who export cars from japan, and the reason why they sell them oversea is because no one buys them there. Just to put into propective, 5 of my friends who bought turbo jdm cars.... 4 needed to rebuild either the turbo or the engine within 1 year, 2 of the cars are skyline gtr, and 1 is a s13, and 1 is well you guessed it, a soarer, and rebuilding is NOT CHEAP. So think about it. its easier to pick out a good engine than it is to pick out an overall good car (exterior, interior, rust, engine, tranny type etc.). Another thing with jdm cars is the hassel they get from the cops... i dont care who tells you that its not an issue, my friends tickets tells another story... almost everytime they get pulled over, they get a VI.

oh and NEVER fall for the "the km is so low, it must mean they take care of the car and the car drives like new!" talk to anyone whos been to japan and they will tell you a different story. It all stop and go traffic, and long long rest on the streets with minimal start up on the cars due to the metro being so convenient. my friend bought a 1992 53000 km soarer and he spent 3500 on the engine 8 month later.

gotta love when your 5 imaginary friends all have problems with their jdm cars within a year.... must be something with the importer your buying them with. i havent had any problems whatsoever with my s13, and my soarer is doing just fine for not having any problems either. look at a 1992 sc300 compared to a soarer. i bought a soarer with 26,000kms on it. find me a sc300 of the same year with the same kms and body shape as the soarer with a price tag that is under 10 000$ and i will buy it tommorow.

maybe your friends are retarded i have a alot of friends who have daily driven cars from japan and none have problems or ever had. soarers are nice if you get one and want it for proformance get the 5speed if im correct its the r160 tranny and its a pretty easy bolt up to the 2jz just need some work done to the bellhousing. so you could have a 5spd 2jz the expensive part of getting a 2jz is the 6spd tranny.

^^ wow i've been in the import scene for years, know countless people with JDM cars and I can only think of two people in four years who've needed over 2k worth of work to the engine in this time, and both were fd3s's so that doesnt count lol, the people you know have shitty ass luck thats for sure. and tickets? maybe in bc, but i've had mine for 4 years and never been bothered. :dunno:
