River Surfing???

Read an article about it not long ago and was wondering what the deal with it is?? I'm from the maritimes and I'm a beach bum, I skim board but always wanted to surf but never had the means to drive to where their were waves to try it. Now closest is BC which is a hell of alot further than halifax was from Moncton so.....Wondering if anyone on here has any info on river surfing...

If you think that is interesting there are some rivers in Alberta that are great for body surfing - no board required- get out to the middle lay flat on your back and let the current take you. Its a blast on a hot day.
