Hey guys, im been trying to get myself into a suv for the last little while. Just cant find what im looking for yet within my price range. I have 8 grand MAX to spend. I been wanting a pathfinder but there hard to find with out huge km or needs work with in my price range. So i thought to myself humm what about a Jeep?

Does any one know anything about Jeeps? I know nothing and i wanna get something that is realiable and not too harsh on gas. Any comments opinions would be greatly helpful! Thinking of a cherokee or grand cherokee?

If I were you I'd wait till you find a pathfinder, the only difference between the I6 and v8 grand cherokees is 1mpg

This might not be much help but my ex gf had a Cherokee, she drove it year round and the car never had problems.

It performed well in the snow and gas milage wasnt all that bad either.

You won't likely find much of a grand cherokee for that price. And you'll never find one that's good on gas unless someone removed the engine from it.

Edit - except for that one I guess! ^

I have found lots of 97-99's for around 8.

Guess I should have qualified my opinion a bit - I personally wouldn't be able to easily find one in the condition and mileage that I would want for that price. :)

I just bought my girlfriend a 99 and she has already fell in love with it. I did my research before too and it sounds like it will be exactly what we need: good winter capability, tow a couple quads, plenty of room.
Not the greatest on gas, but reasonable for an SUV. Took about 2 tanks to get to FSJ (about 1000 km), but I couldn't tell you how big a tank is :dunno: (I am talking the 4.0L I6 as well)

I've owned two cherokees over the past few years and have nothing bad to say. The ride wont be as smooth as a pathfinder, but the tradeoff is excellent 4x4 capabilities. They can sure take a beating & the I6 is a proven engine. Check out NAXJA.org for more info on the XJ.

Cheers

How many km are they good for? To buy one with already like 140-150 is that too high or does it still have plently of life?

From what I have been reading they handle 250+ no problem. I think one with 150 should have plenty of life left

my friend had an older one 93ish with the 5.2, she had like 340 000 km on it in 2004 and she still drives it id say she probably has 400 k on right now:eek:

im on my fourth grand cherokee and as long as you do your basic maintenance, they are an awesome vehicle.. ive had a pathfinder as well (2000 3.3L) and it was a great vehicle too but for the dollar value that youre looking for id definitely go with a cherokee!

The tank in an grand cherokee is effing massive. IIRC its 75ish L tank. Other than fuel consumption it is a great ride.

150 is definitely not too high to buy. I have a 91 cherokee with about 320k kms on it and it still runs great..only issues I have are parts that break when I take it for a hard day wheelin on the trails :)

Are they worse or better than a pathfinder (3.3) on gas? How are these for highway driving?

I have no clue how the PF is on gas, mine's a 4.0 HO and I get just under 400kms to a tank. Tank is about 50L I think. They arent too bad for highway driving, before I put my stiff new suspension in it was pretty wobbly and not that great.. but thats cause the old suspension was very bagged out.

If you are worried about gas mileage I suggest you look for a compact car.

my buddy bought a used early 90's one as his first vehicle about 4 years back. Bought it for $2000 just as a beater to get him around and it had over 380,XXX km's on it... he still drives it and and beats the shit outta it and hasnt had any major problems
