The HRP-3 Promet Mk-II is a robot designed to take over blue-collar jobs. It stands 5' 3", weighs 150 pounds, and is part of a 5-year joint effort by Kawada Industries, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, and Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) to develop a humanoid robot with sufficient skills to enter the workforce. Pink Tentacle writes:

" tough enough to trudge through heavy rains, carry out disaster relief operations and work in environments hazardous to humans, demonstrated its skills at a June 21 press conference at Kawada Industries headquarters in Tochigi prefecture. In addition to flaunting its ability to walk on slippery surfaces, the robot showed off its electric screwdriver wielding talents by taking the opportunity to tighten up some loose screws."

I don't see this thing actually replacing any employees considering it costs $3.3 million. Maybe I'm just out of touch with society, but that seems slightly higher than the average blue-collar worker's salary. [i]Slightly.

"Taking the opportunity to tighten up some loose screws"

Can it actually put screws in, or can it only tighten loose ones?

Cool idea, but not useful, yet.

Im pretty sure that it can do more in 24 hrs than the standard construction worker can in 8 :D

i dont see the point of it tightening screws. we already have robots that can bolt things hundreds of times faster than humans, this bot should be doing something that strictly demands a humanoid body

in conclusion, blue collar worker replies:

i dunno that thing took 2 minutes to pick up a drill and it dropped
even if it could actully do more
how long does it take the average construction worker to make
3.3million

a crew of 5 robots would cost $16 500 000

sure one on one the robot would eventully do more because it
doesnt need food sleep blah blah
but take that 3.3 mill and hire a crew of 50
for a year and make way more profit from the work done of the crew of 50. 50 compitant guys can do alot more than one slow ass robot
:D
each construction worker being paid ($66000)

its a wast of 3.3 million

what the fuck did those japenese do to kraftwerk? argh

that's a real waste of time to assume humans will be replaced with walking robots LOL . neat for research of technologies that will be put into devices and products with a greater return . research like that gets chopped and split to make existing technologies better .

lol @ walking robots . u guys watch too much science fiction . :P

it's simple . the ammount of energy over time spent on those devices is astronomically greater then paying a korean .
