So I went on a roadtrip to pick up my new car... I was sitting at the dealership waiting for the salesguy when I got up to get some water, and around the corner was this crazy beast!

Never seen one in person till now... looks so fucking crazy! From the side it's the size of a SLK55, from the back it's as wide as a dually truck lol.

Because of the demand, they're saying the car is worth about $2m.

The car sounds absolutely ridiculous.

I'll post pics later when I get 'em hehe. For now I gotta get thru my emails and eat my white castle!

I'd say the savings were around $8k (+/- $2k) as compared to buying one in Calgary. I did hit the jackpot with an exchange rate low for last week and good buy rates, so YMMV.

Also, carfax is useless. I think I put offers on 4 different cars, and they turned out to be shitboxes during inspection. My bro lives in the states and found me this mint one (only a small door ding + scratch on passenger side, and the usual scuffed up wear on interior). Otherwise, it's pretty damn mint with very low km (under 23,000).

If u don't have anyone in the states to find one for you, really, don't bother, because you'll end up with a shitbox. I swear 80% of the cars out there are crashed cars, even BMW Certified Pre Owned.

Congrats! I know when we last talked you mentioned you were thinking of one of those. I just imported a car too....a 1993 NSX - Supercharged. It's been fun driving around. Do you have to do much to get it to pass the RIV?

rage2
06-27-2007, 07:13 PM
Ya last we talked I was still thinking about it. I instructed a BMW school a few weeks ago and drove one, SMG cab, kept dreaming about it, so I bought one haha.

I got everything taken care of down here. BMW dealerships in the US are nice ppl, very different than calgary dealerships. Actually the place I bought it from are close to pretty much all dealerships (they stock a veyron so I guess others kiss their ass? lol) so they actually did everything for me.

DRL's are done, recall letter done. Cost was $0.

I'll post a thread detailing my experience with these guys and the whole process when I get home. I highly recommend them for US car purchases, they have EVERYTHING. Huge huge place. Only problem is they buy all their cars (not counting exotics) from auctions, so some are damaged cars, some are dealer buybacks. I got lucky and ended up with a simple lease return where the owner drove 5000 miles a year. Gotta thank my brother for finding it for me.

Their prices are good too, pretty much same price as private sale AFTER negotiations for similar condition cars. And you don't have to worry about liens, title problems, etc. Plus they did everything for me, sent the car in for inspection, DRL, recall letter, everything. Went above and beyond for a stranger they've never seen before haha.

Their website: www.luxurymotors.com

just to follow up carfax really is crap, get a prepurchase inspection done for sure. Carfax missed a bent frame on an SL55 that was being brought up for a friend, so dont depend on it.

Yep. There was a car at luxury, carfax clean (that's how they check, they literally dont even look at their cars) and when my bro looked at it, NOTHING lined up in the front. Rear subframe cracked was found during test drive... so they're stuck with lemon stock.

You really gotta have someone that knows cars look thru them for ya!

Oh ya for those buying cars from the states, I highly recommend Chicago. Luxury Motors has good pricing, enough stock to find that "gem" (they have 21 E46 M3's in stock in the chicago area right now), 7 massive indoor warehouses, and the roads at night here are amazing. The underground roads and passages is like a scene from Ridge Racer. I was doing about 90-110mph through these underground series of tunnels (no cops can stop anywhere), there's little chicanes, sweepers, while the walls just echo the exhaust note right back in your ears. Plus the food is awesome, music/blues scene is insane, lots of awesome food... So much fun here. Everything seems so cheap too thx to our exchange rate.

If only I had an exhaust... it'd be perfect!

Some neat stuff on the drive today....

South Dakota is literally a scam state. Seriously, there's like infinite huge signs on farmland advertising this Wall Drug place, world famous blah blah blah. All they sell is touristy shit. I actually needed a drug store, fucking convertible 12 hour drive gave my arms the worst sunburn . So it took me literally 10 mins to find the corner of this damn mini-mall of worthless souvienier ripoff stuff that was the pharmacy to get my suntan lotion and aloe vera crap so I can walk around properly.

The only thing cool about that Wall town is this place... perfect for Calgary chicks! lol

The road continues to behind Mt Rushmore... and holy shit talk about awesome corners. I'm going out to test the M3 for a 1am run when nobody's around. Hope I don't wake everyone up at the campgrounds!

Did the car come with the wind blocker? Does it work good?

The windscreen is awesome. It worked great till the speed limit bumped up to 75mph and I was in the middle of nowhere, at which point I decided to cruise at 110mph, so I did have to put the top up (not to mention bad sunburn on arms haha).

I picked it up at Perillo BMW. Figured with the exchange rate it's prob cheaper down here.
