I am driving a 92 jdm mr2 thats pretty much all stock other then a blitz BOV. I went away for the weekend so my car sat from thursday morning until today tuesday morning. When driving it today though I noticed the turbo spooling is at a much higher pitch... one that i actually find kind of annoying. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to why the pitch would change and how I might be able to get it back to the way it was before.

Re-adjust the screw on the top of the BOV maybe?

maybe your intake filter is dirty. less space for the air to get into the turbo... means it has to really squeeze through the small gaps? and it's creating a higher pitch noise.. (no clue i'm just taking a wild guess don't flame me!)

a high pitched squeal while spooling up might be the comp blades rubbing against the cover. check turbo for oil and shaft play. could also be air escaping from a boost leak somewhere.

Turbo may be be going.... Least a replacement turbo is cheap since ther are a million used stock ones.

I went a checked it out. and i think it may be the turbo. I did not notice any boost leaks. you only notice the sounds during boost

if the turbo is gonzo buy a usdm ct26 steel blades are better they last longer and
you can run higher boost on them

or you can send your ct26 to majestic turbo in the states
get the 50trim upgrade for about 500 bucks to your door maybe a lil more and youll notice a HUGE!!!! diffrence in power
its night and day. Or a good used stock ct26 will cost you anywere from 150-200 bucks

but if it only makes the noise during boost most likly it is not the turbo when mine turbo went it was more of a howling noise other than a screach the bov is probley not fully opening clean it out with some carb clean see what happens before you strart buying shit :)

Since first hearing this noise I didn't ever step on it. But today I decided to punch it and I realize there is likely a boost leak somewhere. I haven't been able to hit full boost.

Where are the common areas to check for a boost leak. All the hoses look intact.

check if your bov is loose on the flange or any bolts are missing
that seems to be the most common place from what ive seen

and also like i said i doubt your turbo is pouched but
you wont get full boost if your turbos severly worn

i still recomend the 50 trim upgrade :burnout:
regardless if it is screwed or not :D

hmm...check the rubber hoses as well...particularly the one from the IC to the hard pipe that leads to the TB...also check the TB coupling.

if all else fails build a boost leak tester. they are easy to make and work well.

huge thanks to stevo... he guessed it before he saw the car and figured it out the second he heard it. He knows his cars.

It was a missing bolt on the BOV. I can't believe i missed that so many times
