Twin Charged is back and running, new look and new mods

Well i started this hole transformation from a bone stock 2002 Sunfire GT on June 1st. Finished the engine swap on June 17th as i had to pull the engine 2 times since when i had it all in and done i found out my throw out bearing was shot and its easier for me to pull the engine to pull the trany off to off it came in 3hrs and back in the car in another 4hours.. then July 1st the car had all the body kit and rims on it.. so total to go from the bone stock car to the fully finished twin charged car was 1 month or 12 days of actual working on it.. not bad if you ask me, still needs some tuning as this was not the engine it was tuned on and i added more parts and it just doesn't seem to run as smooth as it did with the other engine or as fast (raced the same cars again and couldn't do the same as i did before) so once i get back from all my holidays i will have it tuned again..
some of the new mods include
- Ported Supercharger
- dual Flex-a-lite fans
- Trans Am 3" exhaust
- New intake
- New cold side of charge pipes (still waiting for a few more polished elbows as you can see in the pics)

Well I was hoping you would step up to a Cobalt or Pursuit or something with the Ecotec, but hey. That's crazy that you got it all up and running again so fast.

Kudos on the engine work.

But the exterior truly needs to be rethought.

I'm sorry.

But the front bumper, hood, and two rear spoilers..they just kill the whole appeal of the car.


What could have been a stellar sleeper has now turned into a giant rice box.


Sorry, just my honest opinion. You would have been better off with the stock spoiler, carbon fibre OEM hood to match the black rims, and a lip kit on the stock front bumper.

Like the engine, but I would of kept the exterior stock so I could have a mad sleeper (minus the FMIC). I must ask though, I've seen a few times... Why do people keep on the stock spoiler when they put on a new one? Do you really need 2 spoilers?

RK Sport actually designs their spoiler to be used with the factory spoiler. And RK Sport is one of the few companies endorsed by GM. It's one of the higher end manufacturers for body kits. Fitment and quality-wise, you probably won't find a better one.

With this bodykit, it brutally takes away from the soft edged appeal of the exterior. Thus, rice is formed.

Its an expression. Get over it.

also yea i know some people dont like the body kit on it.. fair enough personal preference i guess :P but i do got some balls in the car to back it up :P not all just body kit like 90% out there

also the wing with out the stock one looks 2x as tall so i keep the stock one

wicked project! and i don't mind the exterior. it looks very quality done. wouldn't do the same thing myself, but i can respect it for what it is, a very fast and unique car that was built with a lot of money, time and hard quality work. so i think everyone else should shut up.

ahah ok people yes it has the apearence of a rice what ever you want to call it, (rice toy, rice rocket rice ect...) :P i dont mind i personaly think its a clean version of a riced out what ever you want to call it.. nothing to goddy on it or out of place..

also i probably will be getting some track times this friday night at race city.. probably nothing to special though.. im going to turn the boost down as low as it can go, as i do not have the tuning done on it yet and i probably wont for another month or so with me going away on a road trip with the car .. it still works and runs fine, with no knock or any thing but i have to keep it around 6-7psi max or else it starts to bogg and what not.. so we shall see how this friday goes

I can agree with that, other than personally not liking the spoiler I don't think it's too bad. You've got the goods too back up the bodykit so that removes some rice for sure. People wont be laughing at the kit when all they can see is the back bumper!

And I hate sunfires, but I certainly appreciate that one! Good job! :thumbsup:

ahaha thanks man :P and yea i can actually say im not much of a fan of sunfires.. or Jbodies for that matter but i have grown to like it i guess... just sucks that like 90% of the Jbodies out there that are all done up and done VERY poorly and usually come with a driver that makes the rep of a Jbody even worse (ex: last night at work i see a gold color cavalier with spinners and exhaust trying to do burn outs in front of the hookers.. thinking he is impressing them)

the last blue one i had twin charged dynoed at 230whp and 235lbs/tq @7psi but i was limited to what boost i could run as i did not have a boost controler when i had it tuned.. so this time im going to have it tuned to 250whp and call it done as its my daily driver and i dont want it spillling the internals all over the road .... yet...

yea that hood/front bumper is stupid.. its actually like that even with the OEM stuff.. i cant get rid of it, if you look close too since i had to have the drivers side of the hood repaired from the crash, it has a nice straight edge with the bumper then the drivers side is very very slightly wavy... oh well its no show car, just a daily driver..

It looks a lot like the street fire kit on the last gen sunfire, only thing id change is if they got rid of the orange fog lights on the bottem, otherwise i think it looks good.

and excellent job on the engine man, hahncraft is working on a twincharge kit for my car... very tempting... lol

you went all the way down 8th street and instead of turning around at the u-turn. turned around at like boychuck or past it.
and than when you were coming back, you were hit in the middle of the intersection at mckercher and 8th? is this the one.

umm in the blue car it dynoed at like 240whp @7psi... but i have changed things since then like the engine isnt the same engine and s/c'er is different and its pretty far out of tune ahaha last night i ran 15.3 which is the same times i was running back when i had 180whp lol.. i can only run 5psi though or it boggs and does other weird things.. and at 5psi my turbo is doing nothing at all.. the supercharger makes 4.5psi alone so :P obviously needing some tuning.. planing on having it tuned to 250whp and calling it a day untill i build up another engine to drop in

aahaha any thing but good... my car was running WAY! to hot.. my fans never go off any more even when things cool down my fans are constantly on ... i could only run 5psi or it started to bog and knock on me... which means the turbo was doing shit all as the s/c'er alone makes like 4.5 - 5psi so all i could do really was practice my launches and reaction times.. it ran the same times last night (15.3) as i did with 180whp last year :P so id say im in need of a tune.. ill come back out to the track when i get the tune for sure.. :P i did beat a JDM twin turbo RX7 though ahah although he was hunting me down the entire way after bogging at the line... and ran like 14.2's all night :P but still i beet him 1 time ahah and i technically only lost to a beatle last night which wasnt bad...

Yea thats still on stock internals.. from 130whp stock ahah
i have been looking for the dyno sheet but i cant seem to find it.. i will post the new one once it gets tuned and every thing to 250whp... just an idea on the power curve.. with a s/c'er pulley 2 sizes bigger then stock (so technically less boost with that) i hit 240whp @3600rmp and held strong right to 7000rmp (well went to like 243whp at the very peak or somthing like that... and with the stock s/c'er pulley it went to 240whp @2900rpm ... alittle to much for the tires to take.. so i stayed with the 3.0" pulley (stock being 2.8") but that was with the last car... this car im not sure yet... I am building up an engine slowly for this car to take about 350-375whp.. but it wont be in for a year or so...

Great car, great project, and done AMAZINGLY fast. I've never seen a compoundfi job on a GM but man... you really did your hw. Looks great as well!

i heard about it, when i went down to saskatoon, my family still has a house, and me and my friends were at SIR. and we saw this ugly sunfire, and a couple of my friends said, they remember a sunfire, that came down once, that got into a accident,
and it was supercharged and turbo'd. and that it made less power than if you would've just turbo'd or supercharged it.

less power? i dont know any 2.4L (bone stock internaly) that can make more then 240whp @7psi with 91 octane gas... when stock power is 130whp.. thats pretty good jump if you ask me :P
Im not saying i can make more power then a turbo or supercharger only set up... but i make more power sooner in my power band... more usable power i guess you could say? With the low end pull like a supercharger set up only.. but the top end power of a large turbo with out the huge lage in power..
and still being able to get 680kms to a tank of gas on the high way :P but yea that was probably me they were talking about...

thanks man.. and yea i have to thank my dad for alot of the paper work and number crunching to figure out things like what turbo to use and what size of compressor and such, helps to have some one who builds cars and deals with compressors every day for work..

Engine looks crazy. The ex is ok, you should revert it back to a normal sunfire and that would make a nice sleeper but that's just IMO.

:P i had thought about it.. but the blue one was my very first car and i miss it :( ahah so i kind of wanted to make this one as close to it as i could.... if i could have i would have got another blue sunfire..
But i think any sunfire no matter what it looks like is kind of a sleeper if the engine is done up.. not to many people expect 250hp out of a Jbody lol

MAD props on the twin charge, lots of cobalt sc and redlines trying to twin charge, wiht very little success from what ive seen, looks awesome, prolly sounds awesome :thumbsup:

i can make 270 whp wiht 7 psi on my 2.4... and i can run at 10psi with stock internals on a single turbo...

then again i make 150whp stock.
