Does anybody know of any decent non-City of Calgary golf courses? They would have to be semi-private of course. Trying to book a tee time this weekend and I'm sick of going to Shaganappi.

Thanks!

Wintergreen takes public bookings 4 days in advance - about $85

For something completely different try Tooth of the Dog at the Dog Pound near Cremona. $35 green fees.

You could try douglasdale, fox hollow, but there are also a ton of good one around calgary not to far out. Check this for a list of courses http://www.calgaryselect.com/Golf/tabid/94/Default.aspx

Kananaskis, by far the best bang for your buck.

Only $65/round if you are an Alberta resident.

+1 for Kananaskis
D'Arcy in Okotoks is alright, crappy greens though
Highwood is pretty nice, at least the Spiztee 9 and the Heritage 9

Edit: Mountainview is the 9 through the houses, not my favorite

Nanton is nice too

Highwood in High River is a fun course, except for the 9 holes that are in a residential zone. I also like Turner Valley, Nanton, Heather Glen is ok. I will add more if I can think of them.
If I had to drive from Calgary for one of them it would most likely be Highwood cause it isn't too far down the #2.

Agreed. I've played there once and I'm heading out again in August.

Mt Kidd is pretty nice, just watch out for all the damm sand traps :guns: :guns: :guns: oh and there is tons of wildlife on the course in the early mornings, they can kinda be a pain in the ass.

But if you lose your ball in the woods good luck finding it.

I really liked Innisfail as well. Nice course and a wicked challenge on some holes.

I quite like the canals at delacour, it's a links style course and green fees are around $50.

I personally like Harvest Hills... but it's only a 9 hole course however.

If you want a 9 hole, Mckenzie Meadows has a 9 and dine for $42.45 Fri-Sun (evening). 9 holes, $10 food voucher and power cart... not bad.

Heather Glen is Cheap and Fun, never ever had trouble getting a tee time there.

27 holes each 9 has different challenges. Take Glenmore East out of the city, about 2km out.

Harvest Hills is a decent 9-hole course.

I've played harvest hills multiple times. It's a decent course but the pace of play is unbearable. I've had a 3.5 hour round there on weekends.

9 holes should be played in 2 hours, I can play it in 1.5 if noone's in the way.

Do I just have bad timing?

CaptainReboot
07-20-2007, 07:52 AM
Yeah, 3.5 hours for 9 holes does seem kind of long. 2 - 2.5 should be max.

Are people in front just slow?

dezmarez

ya word
i just did 9 at harvest and it took 3.5 hours
its a tough course though
sand sand sand and then more sand!!!

yeah I worked at Highwood for awhile, Nice course, Other ones that I know that are good.
Crystal ridge out by Okotoks, Sirocco just south of spruce meadows.
Heather Glen is nice. Nanton is cheap during the week. $1.88 for each hole from mon-thurs.

AGREED! Some friends of mine were joking about wondering when they were going to build a giant windmill in the middle of a fairway.

I've never been out there but I've always wondered about it.

Is it crazy hard?

its not crazy hard. its jsut the course layout is terrible, its like they had some free land kicking around so they decided to fit a golf course to it instead of properly designing the holes. if you play it you will see what i mean, starting with the 1st hole, a 90 degree dog leg right with the green tucked in a gully. and then they have the 16th hole par 3 whic should be about 190 yards but with a 150 foot elevation change so i hit a 9 iron and overshot the green which is just ridiculous.

if you go towards the direction of bragg creek there should be some good ones there, i think there is one called "redwood" right off the highway,
but don't quote me on the name.

scenery is great!

I am glad I stumbled across this thread. I went to Shaganappi the other day, and I am never going back. So many terrible golfers! You can keep track of your pace by the clocks around the course and we were over an hour behind!

I've golfed Douglas Dale and it's a decent course. As far as 18 hole courses are concerned it's on the easier side of things.

Beaverdam just north of calgary is an awesome course. It's a hidden gem in my oppinion. The greens play fast and true. 45 bucks, can't go wrong.

Douglas Dale is a joke.

The only city course I have enjoyed is Cotton Wood.

If you are looking for a "real" golf course with some excellent holes, try Stewart Creek. I just played a round a couple weeks ago and its awesome!

If you are looking for a golf trip I suggest Kimberley.

Trickle Creek, Bootleg Gap and St. Eugene are all excellent courses.

If you want to travel a little farther try Creston BC. The Creston Golf Club, Kokanee Springs & the Balfour courses are awesome!

Your suggestions of golf courses that cost 3 times as much are hardly comparable.

Good call. I've golfed it about 3 or 4 times this season and it was good.
If it rained a lot, like it did earlier in the season there are lots of low spots that get boggy and not that fun to golf in.

Also tooth of the dogpound (similar area) is a better price but not as good.
