Would it be possible or rather feasable to do a hilux surf engine swap into a similar era (15 yr old) toyota 4runner? does the turbo diesel retain similar engine mountings and transmission specs? Or would this be stupid expensive/hard to do. I emailed jdmsource but havent heard back.

Don't bother.

The cost to swap is going to be high and the mileage isn't much better than the 2 gas engines that were available.

Power is down as well.

On top of that some Surfs had head cracking problems on the 2LTE's.

dont do it. Met a girl who gave me a ride home in her SURF and it was rediculous how slow it was. Im talking reeeeeally slow, I dont know the spec of the diesel engine you want but its compareable to my freinds 300D dielsel ;)

2.4 turbo diesel engine in the hilux feels like a civic engine in an SUV.

My brother inlaw did it the other way around - 4Runner motor into SURF after the SURF motor blew a turbo.

why would u bother doing that? then its a rhd 4runner. Which is just annoying to drive

I dunno - its what they had I guess. Body and interior is mint I guess. Still the rhd has to be annoying in an SUV (I've never driven it).

i drive a hilux its not slow at all...
you do get better mileage , and engine lasts way longer than 4 cylinder gas toyota engine.

i dont think there is anybody who has first hand experience with hilux

i think in city you get almost double the mileage of v6 4runner

I don't know how much you're going to pay for an engine, but you might as well import another?

We're been buying decent Hilux 1992s for around 2500bucks. Compare that to a replacement engine, it might be worth it. Or, we could get a Hilux engine to you through our agent in Vancouver (Pacific Gateway and Distribution).

basically what I was thinking about was getting the benefits of a diesel without the annoyances of right hand drive. If it's not that feasable i wont bother, just a thought i had
