When I did my fence a lot of the post holes were too close to the house, garage or some sort of power or phone line... I just ended up doing them all by hand and I did 15 in an afternoon, just go to home depot and buy the two handle post hole digging thing... you can have them done in under an hour. If you have any issues just put some water in the hole and let it sit for a bit.

Just go rent an auger and do it yourself.

Manual augers are super easy to use.

Pretty sure you can rent a power auger just like this at Rona.

Super easy to use. You just put the auger bit where you want the hole and give'er. As long as you don't have a fuckload of rocks to deal with (which is unfortunately the case in Calgary most of the time) it'll dig you a hole pretty quick.

Probably too late, but I saw a truck with this on it a few weeks ago:

2 post holes?

Is it for a deck? I dug 2 manually a couple of weeks ago and it only took me 30 minutes with a manual auger.

That ain't a bad way to make a living, driving around with an auger in the back of a truck digging post holes for people. I mean, you could charge a guy like $50 per post hole, and they'd probably pay it. If you end up doing like 2 jobs an hour, with 4 post holes each (unlikely, but possible these days), for a complete 10 hours, you've gone and made yourself $4k. That might be a good day, but fuck I wish I had a day that good. Those power augers are fuckin' cheap as hell to run too, so you wouldn't even be losing too much money.
