View Full Version : First JDM Lancer Evolution listed for import

an importing company just listed what would seem to be the first evo that will be legal for import in October. I always thought this would be a great winter car for those wonderful cold days that we get.

Just wondering what people's oppinions on these cars are? How do they stack up to their current day counterparts such as the wrx? I hear its basically a talon tsi with a different body? :dunno:

kind of excited to see them driving around

i think they are the lightest of the evos

don't think i'd buy one though, not really a mitsu fan

i always thought the talons were modelled after the eclipse not the lanevo.

I think this would be up there on my list of cars I would love to drive.

I was thinking that these would be some of the worth while cars to import. not available and hopefully pretty cheap. If their parts interchange with the eclipse/talon then it should make them reasonably cheap to keep on the road. still 15 years old though.

talons/eclipses/lasers are all basically the same cars for different markets. Mitsubishi wasn't in Canada at the time so they basically slapped some new bumpers on the eclipse gave them to dodge and had them sell it under the talon name. well thats the quick summary of the story anyways :S

Uhmmmmm how about no. Although bascis are the same, ie 4G63 that's about it. The Evo got a bigger turbo, larger injectors, a different drivetrain, different wheelbase, track width, and different suspension.

But something seems off about this car. Not knocking the importer at all. But this doesn't seem like an Evo III to me whatsoever.

Trust me I know Evo's and Diamond Star products...haha I still want an Evo VI some day.

wouldnt it be a lancer gsr evo i? didnt iii come out later? (or at least logic would dictate?)

This one is either an Evo I or Evo II. I think it's Evo II because of the little decals on the rear doors. The foglights are aftermarket. Evo III has a taller rear wing and more aggressive front spoiler. The wheels on this car came from an Evo III, as Evo I and II had similar wheels to the Lancer GSR (FF, turbo, ~200bhp).

I think there's already an Evo I running around in Calgary. I think it's black or charcoal/something like that.

It can only be an GSR EVO I because they are becoming 15 years old soon. EVO II isn't for a while still.

That's a regular Lancer GSR with the 4G93, not an Evo GSR w/4G63....but I'm sure you knew that.

The few evo VIII's making it here before they were found illegal, wasn't it a matter of minutes; like 30 or so when those were brought over?
im probally wrong but that is what i heard.

And that "Evo VIII" that is running around calgary, is it not just some lancer rebuilt too look like one, i was beside him at a light, and when he took off there was no turbo, or blow off valve that i could hear.

4WARNED, you're not a rebuilt RA are you?

if not, your evo is very convincing ;)

Y'know, the fact that it actually is an evo viii..

Is that why the ad says 1.8l engine? To hide the fact that the car he's trying to sell has a better engine that what he's advertising? :dunno:

I don't know about the advertising but if those pics are the real car it's a 4G63. You can see the compressor outlet piping at the left of the heat shield and the coolant supply line to the turbo (bottom left corner of the valve cover). After owing a couple of DMS's I can say I know my 4G63's.:D

Sorry my bad. I wasn't paying attention. I was referring to this one in the first post.

The one in your pic is the rare 1.8L turbo. Parts may be quite hard to find as that engine never made it to North America.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I was under the asumption that the law was changing next month (August) that the car had to be at least 25 yrs old and not the current 15....

That would mean no Evo of any sort for a very long time.

Someone pleae clarify

Go read the forums at 15years.ca, it sounds like you've heard some rumor. While it may be true that Transport Canada might want to change the 15 year rule, the official process hasn't started. Transport Canada will tell you that they need at least 75 days for the legislation change to be published in the Gazette, this hasn't happened yet.
