iPod Video or Creative Zen Vision. Personal experiences on both would be nice.

I've only had experience with ipods so my vote goes for it.

batter life is pretty good , 10-20 hours+ depending on model.
the only thing I'm not really fan off is itunes.

I've owned an iPod before, just not the video. It was the 4th Gen 20GB one. It has now ceased to work.

I would recommend the Zen Vision M. It's slightly thicker than the iPod Video, but you can play XviD files directly instead of having to re-encode your stuff. You can also directly transfer music and video without having to use a specific software (like iTunes). This means that you can plug your player into any computer via USB then drag and drop files to and from it.
